The present invention provides a method of dynamic thermal management applied to a portable device, wherein the method includes the steps of: obtaining a surface temperature of the portable device; obtaining a junction temperature of a chip of the portable device; and calculating an upper limit of the junction temperature according to the junction temperature and the surface temperature.

Method and apparatus of dynamic thermal management based on surface temperatures of portable device

The surface temperature of a portable device is estimated. The portable device includes a sensor for detecting the internal temperature of the portable device. The portable device also includes circuitry for estimating the surface temperature, using the internal temperature and an ambient temperature of the portable device as input to a circuit model. The circuit model describes thermal behaviors of the portable device. The circuitry is operative to identify a scenario in which the portable device operates, and determine the ambient temperature using the scenario and at least the internal temperature.

Method and apparatus for surface and ambient temperature estimation for portable devices

Power and performance of a multi-core system is managed dynamically by adjusting power table indices at runtime. Runtime statistics is measured, when an application is executed on a first core of a first type at a first operating point (OPP) in a first time period, and on a second core of a second core type at a second OPP in a second time period. A controller estimates, based on the runtime statistics, a first pair of indices associated with a first OPP for the first core and a second pair of indices associated with a second OPP for the second core. During runtime, the controller incorporates the first pair of indices and the second pair of indices into power table indices; and determines, from the power table indices, selected indices associated with a selected OPP of a core of a selected core type for executing the application.

The surface temperature of a portable device is estimated. A sensor detects the internal temperature of the portable device. The internal temperature and an ambient temperature are used as input to a circuit model that describes thermal behaviors of the portable device. Dynamic thermal management may be performed based on the estimated surface temperature.

A graphics accelerator device offloads the workload of a graphics processing unit (GPU) by performing image composition and other specialized functions. The graphics accelerator device includes a rasterization module to rasterize a set of primitives to a set of pixels and generate information of the set of pixels. The graphics accelerator device also includes intra-process module to retrieve pixel values from a memory according to the information received from the rasterization module, perform mathematical calculations on the pixel values, and generate one or more processed image layers. The graphics accelerator device further includes an inter-process module to composite the one or more processed image layers received from the intra-process module with other image layers retrieved from the memory, and output a composited image to a display.

The core controller is for: monitoring utilization of the multi-core processor; calculating a target performance index according to the utilization of the multi-core processor, a target utilization and a first performance index, wherein the first performance index is associated with a first entry of a dynamic voltage frequency scaling (DVFS) table that corresponds to a current setting for the multi-core processor; and selecting a second entry of the DVFS table that corresponds to a target-setting according to the target performance index and a second performance index that is associated with the second entry. A capacitive touch device and a sensing method thereof are disclosed. The capacitive touch device includes a touch panel, at least one touch detection unit and a processing unit. The touch detection unit scans the touch panel, obtains an N-bit sensed data and compresses the N-bit sensed data to an L-bit sensed data. The processing unit receives the L-bit sensed data, decompresses the L-bit sensed data to the N-bit sensed data and calculates a coordinate of a touch according to the N-bit sensed data. The present invention is capable of decreasing the time for transmitting the sensed data, the power consumption and the requirements for the memory capacity of the touch detection unit and the memory capacity of the processing unit.

The touch panel includes first sensing lines and second sensing lines. A method of reducing computation of water tolerance by projecting touch data is disclosed, targeting the handheld devices. The method targets first at obtaining a difference array, followed by extracting minimum values of rows and columns of the difference array to obtain a row projection list and a column projection list respectively. By repeated implementing of mutual capacitance detection, ghost water blocks can be wiped out from the multiple water blocks. Once integrating with a local spatial boundary detection algorithm, the sensed signals of intended input located within a rectangular water block yet beyond a real water block are consequently detected. The computational algorithm of the water tolerance of this invention is successfully built into the touch panel controller due to its substantially reduced computation.
