The backlight source comprising: a light guide plate; a light emitting device on a side of the light guide plate in a thickness direction, wherein the light emitting device is configured to emit light irradiated into the light guide plate; and an optical element on a light emitting side of the light emitting device in a thickness direction, wherein the optical element is configured to convert the light emitted from the light emitting device into a parallel beam propagating in the light guide plate by total reflection. The light emitting device and the optical element may convert the light emitted from the light emitting device to be a parallel beam in the thickness direction of the light guide plate, so that the light may be coupled into the light guide plate according to needs when the light guide plate is rather thin, which facilitates to reduce the thickness of the backlight source and related products.
