A system for wireless transmission of power in deep subsurface monitoring includes a casing, an oscillating current source configured to energize the casing, and a wireless telemetry module disposed on the casing. The wireless telemetry module includes a shell, a toroidal antenna disposed within the shell and configured to collect electrical energy from the energized casing, a telemetry transceiver control unit disposed within the shell, a battery pack disposed within the shell, a downhole signal acquisition unit disposed within the shell, and a sensor interface disposed within the shell. The battery pack is configured to store the collected electrical energy. The telemetry transceiver control unit is configured to generate a binary code to drive the toroidal antenna.

Systems and methods for wireless transmission of power in deep subsurface monitoring

An oil-based mud wellbore imaging apparatus for measuring formation permittivity and resistivity includes a reflectometry-type microwave scanning system. The system contains at least one high-Q microstrip resonator with one or more slots on the top surface. The microstrip resonator is excited by one port, which is fed with electromagnetic signals by a coaxial cable. From the phase detection of signal at the port, the formation resistivity and permittivity can be determined and corresponding borehole images can be generated.

Apparatus and method for wellbore imaging in oil-based mud

A method and apparatus for generating a borehole image by firing a signal in the direction of a borehole formation using at least one transmitter in a horizontal array, firing a signal in the direction of the borehole formation using at least one transmitter in a vertical array, where the fired signals engage the downhole formation, receiving signals associated with the transmitted signals after the fired signals have engaged the formation, and using the received signals to determine one or more vertical and horizontal formation parameters for generating an omni-directional image using the formation parameters.

Logging while drilling electrical imager and method for measurement in oil based mud

An apparatus and method for simultaneously obtaining quantitative measurements of vertical and horizontal resistivity and permittivity formation parameters by firing, using at least one transmitter in each of a horizontally and vertically polarized array on opposite sides of a drill collar, signals in the direction of a downhole formation, the fired signals from the transmitters in the arrays being fired simultaneously and engaging the downhole formation. The apparatus and method continues by receiving, using at least one receiver in each of the arrays, signals associated with the fired signals after the fired signals have engaged the downhole formation, where the received signals represent apparent formation data. The apparatus and method further involves determining, using the measured apparent formation data, the true formation data including one or more vertical and horizontal formation parameters.
