A process for producing a coated, printed substrate comprising (a) providing a printed substrate, wherein the substrate comprises a surface on which resides one or more areas of a layer of an ink, (b) bringing together a component A and a component B to form a urethane coating composition, wherein component A comprises a polyisocyanate prepolymer A1, wherein the polyisocyanate prepolymer A1 is a reaction product of a polyisocyanate monomer A1a and an isocyanate-polyreactive compound A1b, wherein component B comprises one or more polyol B1, wherein the urethane coating composition has isocyanate index greater than 0.9, (c) applying a layer of the urethane coating composition to the surface. Also provided is a coated printed substrate made by such a method.

A waterborne laminating barrier adhesive composition including: (a) a water-based acrylic polymer emulsion component having a Tg of above −20 C; (b) at least one nanocellulose component comprising fibers and/or crystals having a length/width ratio of from 10 to 1,000; and (c) optionally, at least one isocyanate crosslinker component; a process for preparing the above waterborne laminating barrier adhesive composition; and a laminate structure made using the above waterborne laminating barrier adhesive composition.

Waterborne adhesive composition

Two-component solventless polyurethane adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising an isocyanate component comprising an isocyanate, and a polyol component comprising an amine-initiated polyol comprising two or more primary hydroxyl groups and a backbone incorporating tertiary amines, wherein the amine-initiated polyol comprises a functionality of from 2 to 12, a hydroxyl number of from 5 to 1,830, and a viscosity at 40° C. of from 500 to 20,000 mPa-s, and a silicone-based additive (e.g., an anti-foaming agent and/or a wetting agent). The adhesive compositions are formulated such that the isocyanate and polyol components can be applied to separate substrates prior to mixing. Laminate structures comprising the disclosed adhesive compositions and further comprising a metal or metallized substrate are also disclosed.

Two-component solventless adhesive compositions for adhesion to metal and/or metallized substrates

The present disclosure provides a process for forming a laminate. The process includes (A) uniformly applying an isocyanate component to a first substrate, the isocyanate component containing an isocyanate compound; (B) uniformly applying an isocyanate-reactive component to a second substrate, the isocyanate-reactive component containing an amine-terminated compound; (C) bringing the first substrate and the second substrate together, thereby mixing and reacting the isocyanate component and the isocyanate-reactive component to form an adhesive composition between the first substrate and the second substrate; (D) curing the adhesive composition to bond the first substrate and the second substrate; and (E) forming the laminate.

Process for forming a laminate

A solvent-based polyurethane retort adhesive composition for producing laminates including: (A) at least one isocyanate compound, Component A; and (B) at least one isocyanate (NCO)-reactive component, Component B, comprising (i) at least one phosphate ester compound and (ii) at least one polyester polyol having an average molecular weight of greater than 3,000 g/mol; a process for producing the above adhesive; a multi-layer laminate product including the above adhesive; and a process for producing a laminate product using the above adhesive.

Retort adhesive composition

Provided is a composition comprising one or more epoxy phosphate esters wherein the structure comprises two or more polyester linkages. Also provided is a method of making the epoxy phosphate esters that comprises reacting one or more epoxy-terminated polyesters with one or more phosphoric acids. Further provided is an adhesive composition that comprises one or more epoxy phosphate esters, one or more multifunctional isocyanate prepolymers, and one or more multifunctional isocyanate-reactive compounds.

Lamination film and adhesive therefor

A solvent-based polyurethane retort adhesive system for producing laminates including: (A) at least one isocyanate compound, Component A, comprising: a blend of: (i) at least one aliphatic-based isocyanate and (ii) at least one aromatic-based isocyanate; and (B) at least one isocyanate-reactive component, Component B, comprising: (i) at least one phosphate ester compound and (ii) at least one polyether polyol having an average molecular weight of less than 1,500 g/mol; a process for producing the above adhesive; a multi-layer laminate product including the above adhesive; and a process for producing a laminate product using the above adhesive.

The disclosed adhesive compositions comprise (A) an isocyanate component comprising (i) an isocyanate and (ii) an isocyanate-terminated silane compound. In some embodiments, the isocyanate-terminated silane compound (ii) is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive compound comprising a silane group and at least one isocyanate-reactive group selected from the group consisting of —OH, —SH, and —NHR, where R stands for an alkyl remainder having from 1 to 12 C atoms or a cycloaliphatic or aromatic remainder having between 6 and 12 C atoms. In other embodiments, the isocyanate-terminated silane compound (ii) is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate selected from the group consisting of isophorone diisocyanate, m-xylylene diisocyanate, mixtures thereof, dimers thereof, trimers thereof, prepolymers thereof, and combinations thereof and an isocyanate-reactive compound comprising a silane group and at least one isocyanate-reactive group of —NH. Methods for preparing the disclosed two-component adhesive compositions, and methods for forming laminate comprising same, are also disclosed.

Two-component adhesive compositions based on isocyanate-terminated silanes, and methods for making same

The disclosed adhesive compositions comprise (A) an isocyanate component comprising an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer that is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive mixture comprising a phosphate ester polyol. The disclosed adhesive compositions further comprise (B) an isocyanate-reactive component polyol component comprising a polyol. In some embodiments, methods for preparing two-component adhesives formulations are disclosed comprising preparing an isocyanate component comprising an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer by reacting a polyisocyanate with an isocyanate-reactive mixture comprising a phosphate ester polyol and preparing an isocyanate-reactive component comprising a polyol. The methods further comprise mixing the isocyanate component and the isocyanate-reactive component at a stoichiometric ratio (NCO/OH) of from about 1.0 to about 5.0. Methods for forming laminate structures, and the laminate structures themselves, are also disclosed.

Two-component adhesive compositions based on phosphate ester modified isocyanates, and methods for making same

An aqueous polyurethane dispersion compositions are disclosed. The compositions include a polyurethane prepolymer dispersed in an aqueous medium, the polyurethane prepolymer comprising an isocyanate and a crystalline polyester polyol having a hydroxyl content of 20 to 150 mg KOH/g and a melt temperature of less than or equal to 90&#xb0; C. Methods of forming a laminate are also disclosed. The methods include providing an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, applying the polyurethane dispersion to a surface of the first substrate, bringing the side of the first substrate into contract with a surface of the second substrate, and curing the aqueous dispersion, thereby laminating the first substrate to the second substrate. Laminates formed by the methods and including the compositions are also disclosed.

Aqueous polyurethane dispersion adhesive compositions

The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a coated film comprises (a) a multilayer polymeric film having opposing facial surfaces, wherein a first facial surface has a root mean square surface roughness of at least 80 nm when measured using image analysis with an atomic force microscope and wherein a second facial surface has a root mean square surface roughness of less than 80 nm when measured using image analysis with an atomic force microscope; and (b) a coating on at least a portion of the first facial surface, wherein the coating comprises polyurethane, wherein the film comprises at least one of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, or polyamide, and wherein the coated film has a Zebedee clarity of at least 2% when measured according to ASTM D1746/15 in the coated portion of the first facial surface.

Coated films and articles formed from same

A two-component solventless adhesive composition is disclosed, the adhesive composition comprising an isocyanate component comprising at least one isocyanate, and a polyol component comprising at least one amine-initiated polyol having a functionality of from 3 to 8 and a hydroxyl number of from 20 to 1,000, wherein the first and second components are formulated to be applied to separate substrates before being brought together. Further, a method for forming a laminate is disclosed, the method comprising uniformly applying the isocyanate component to a first substrate, uniformly applying the polyol component to a second substrate, bringing the first and second substrates together, thereby mixing and reacting the isocyanate component and the polyol component to form an adhesive between the first and second substrates, and curing the adhesive to bond the first and second substrates. Still further, a laminate formed by the method is disclosed.

Two-component solventless adhesive compositions comprising an amine-initiated polyol

The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a coated film comprises (a) a film comprising (i) a first layer as described herein; (ii) a second layer as described herein; and (iii) at least one inner layer between the first layer and the second layer as described herein; and (b) a coating on an outer surface of the second layer of the film comprising polyurethane.
