The invention generally relates to materials and methods for creating and/or utilizing upconverting luminescence. More particularly, the invention relates to novel compositions (e.g., nanoparticles) and related methods of preparation and use that enable upconverting luminescence with an efficient excitation optimized at about 800 nm. A unique class of cascade sensitized tri-doped UCNPs with a biocompatiable 800 nm excitable property are disclosed herein, for example, tri-doped &#x3b2;-NaYF:Nd, Yb, Er (Tm)/NaYFUCNPs, which employ Ndas 800 nm photon sensitizer and Ybas bridging ions, having strong green or blue upconversion emissions without photobleaching.

Compositions and methods for upconverting luminescence with engineered excitation and applications thereof

The invention generally relates to materials and methods for creating and/or utilizing upconverting luminescence. More particularly, the invention relates to novel compositions (e.g., nanoparticles) and related methods of preparation and use that enable upconverting luminescence with an efficient excitation optimized at about 800 nm. The invention provides novel biocompatible upconversion nanoparticle (UCNP) that comprises a core of cubic nanocrystals (e.g., comprising &#x3b1;-Na LnLnLnF) and an epitaxial shell (e.g., formed from CaF; wherein Lnis Yb), and related methods of preparation and uses thereof.

Coated up-conversion nanoparticles

The present disclosure relates to the alignment of moieties (e.g., nanoparticles and/or nanowires) into prescribed architectures on two- and/or three-dimensional substrates (e.g., nucleic acid nanostructures/crystals). The present disclosure also relates to a nucleic acid (e.g., DNA) lithography method that includes, in some embodiments, adsorbing a bare nucleic acid nanostructure onto a surface of a substrate, and etching the surface of the substrate containing the bare nucleic acid nanostructure, thereby producing a patterned substrate.

Scalable nucleic acid-based nanofabrication
