Systems and methods are disclosed herein for providing adaptive service areas for multicast session continuity. Embodiments of a method performed by a radio access node in a Radio Access Network (RAN) are disclosed. Such embodiments introduce mobility of User Equipments (UEs) participating in a multicast/broadcast service, which is managed by the RAN. This means that the broadcast area will dynamically adapt as participating UEs move and/or radio conditions change.

Adaptive service areas for multicast session continuity

A SC informs a communication service (CS) node (e.g., GCS AS) of a data transfer start time for the bearer (i.e., the user plane ready time for the bearer). Additionally, in some embodiments, the SC informs the communication service node (e.g., GCS AS) as to a data transfer stop time for the bearer. This provides a distinct advantage because the CS node will now have information as to when it should start (and stop) data delivery, thereby leading to a higher quality of experience (QoE) of MBMS delivery.

Providing to a communication service node user plane timing information for an MBMS bearer

A BM-SC, and a method therein for transmitting data file by broadcast session to at least one UE, in a radio communication system; and a UE and a method therein for receiving a broadcast session of transmission of a data file from a BM-SC are provided. The method in the BM-SC comprises determining to transmit the data file to the at least one UE, and determining a FEC redundancy level to use for the transmission. For managing multicast transmissions in a cellular network, a control plane module () of a gateway node () of the cellular network establishes one or more control plane sessions associated with the multicast transmissions. Further, a user plane module () of the gateway node () establishes one or more user plane sessions associated with the multicast transmissions. The control plane module () of the gateway node () indicates context information of the control plane session(s) to an external storage (). During a failure of the control plane module () of the gateway node (), the user plane module () of the gateway node () maintains the user plane session(s). After recovery from the failure of the control plane module () of the gateway node (), the control plane module () of the gateway node receives the context information from the external storage () and re-establishes at least one of the more control plane session(s) on the basis of the received context information.

Maintaining user plane session and restoring control plane session in case of control plane module failure of gateway for multicast transmissions

It is presented a method for enabling transmission of streaming content in a point to multipoint delivery. The method is performed in a radio network node of a cellular network. The method comprises the steps of: receiving a donor indication message from a wireless device in response to the wireless device receiving a donor command from an application server, the donor indication message indicating that the wireless device requests to be a donor device; setting up a point to multipoint delivery session; obtaining downlink data of streaming content destined for the donor device in a unicast delivery; transmitting the downlink data in a unicast delivery to the donor device; and transmitting a copy of the downlink data using the point to multipoint session, such that the downlink data can be received by a plurality of wireless devices being recipient devices.

Method, a user equipment and a computer program product for enabling a dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP, DASH, player to fetch media segments from a network

It is presented a method for combining main streaming content comprising a plurality of main segment files and secondary streaming content comprising at least one secondary segment file. The method is performed in a multimedia streaming service node and comprises the steps of: determining a time slot within the main streaming content where secondary streaming content should be provided; setting a time reference of each one of the at least one secondary segment file to correspond to a time reference of the at least one discardable main segment file; setting a sequence number of each one of the at least one secondary segment file to correspond to a sequence number of the at least one discardable main segment file; providing the main segment files which are distinct from the at least one discardable main segment file; and providing the at least one secondary segment file.

Method, multimedia streaming service node, computer program and computer program product for combining content

A control node () of a cellular network establishes one or more control plane sessions with a gateway node (). On the basis of these one or more control plane sessions with the gateway node (), the control node () also establishes one or more control plane sessions with one or more radio access network nodes () to control multicast transmissions by the one or more radio access network nodes (). Further, the control node () detects a connection failure to the gateway node (). When detecting the connection failure, the control node () starts a first timer. Further, also the gateway node () detects the connection failure. When detecting the connection failure, the gateway node () starts a second timer. The second timer is configured with a longer duration than the first timer. In response to expiry of the first timer, the control node () locally deletes the one or more control plane sessions with the gateway node () and with the one or more control plane sessions with the one or more radio access network nodes (). In response to expiry of the second timer, the gateway node () triggers a reaction to the connection failure by the gateway node (), e.g., selection of an alternative control node.

Method and broadcast multicast service center, BM-SC, node for providing an on-request service

A node () of a cellular network node sends data units to a group of base stations (). Each data unit is configured for conveying multicast data to be sent by the base stations () in a synchronized manner at a starting time indicated in the data unit. For each of the data units, the node () determines the starting time as the sum of the time of sending the data unit from the node and an offset value. Further, the node () obtains feedback information from the base stations () of the group. The feedback information indicates a deviation of the starting time indicated in one of the data units () from an earliest possible time of sending the multicast data from the data unit () by the base stations () of the group. Depending on the feedback information, the node () adapts the offset value.

A method in a user equipment node for providing interactive services to a user of the user equipment node, comprising the steps of receiving an interactivity media file comprising information which is to be presented to the user.
