A method and apparatus for adaptive de-blocking filter are disclosed. One or more parameters associated with a de-blocking filter are determined. De-blocking filter using the derived parameters are then applied to reconstructed blocks. Each set of parameters is used for each picture, slice, coding tree unit (CTU) or CU (coding unit). The parameters can be signalled in VPS (video parameter set), SPS (sequence parameter set), PPS (picture parameter set), slice header, CTU (coding tree unit) or CU (coding unit) of the video bitstream. The parameters correspond to one or more values used as thresholds, clipping boundaries, or both the thresholds and clipping boundaries for the de-blocking filter. In one embodiment, the parameters for the current picture are determined using a training process using a current coded picture a previous coded picture as training data.

Method and apparatus of advanced deblocking filter in video coding

A method and apparatus for coding a depth block in three-dimensional video coding are disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention divide a depth block into depth sub-blocks and determine default motion parameters. For each depth sub-block, the motion parameters of a co-located texture block covering the center sample of the depth sub-block are determined. If the motion parameters are available, the motion parameters are assigned as inherited motion parameters for the depth sub-block. If the motion parameters are unavailable, the default motion parameters are assigned as inherited motion parameters for the depth sub-block. The depth sub-block is then encoded or decoded using the inherited motion parameters or a motion candidate selected from a motion candidate set including the inherited motion parameters. The depth block may correspond to a depth prediction unit (PU) and the depth sub-block corresponds to a depth sub-PU.

Method for sub-PU motion information inheritance in 3D video coding

A method and apparatus for Intra prediction of non-square chroma blocks are disclosed. The system uses a block partitioning structure for partitioning a chroma block into one or more final sub-blocks including at least one non-square final sub-block using block partition recursively. The block partition either splits each given block into intermediate sub-blocks using one or more split modes including one binary split mode or applies no splitting to each given block. The block is treated as an initial given block and each intermediate sub-block is treated as one given block in a next recursion. Any given block that is not further split becomes a final sub-block. After the final sub-blocks are determined, non-square Intra prediction is applied to each non-square final sub-block.

Method and apparatus of non-square intra prediction for chroma components in coding system with quad-tree and binary-tree partition

A method of MVP (motion vector prediction) for video coding with adaptive motion vector resolution is disclosed. According to the present invention, the MVP coding is applied to the current MV or the current MV is stored depending on the current MV resolution, the reference MV resolution, or both the current MV resolution and the reference MV resolution. In one embodiment, when the current MV resolution corresponds to integer pixel resolution, MVP coding is then applied to the current MV using a modified temporal MV as a motion vector predictor for the current MV, where the modified temporal MV is generated by right-shifting the temporal MV. In another embodiment, when the current MV resolution corresponds to integer pixel resolution, the current MV is left-shifted before it is stored in a memory.

Method of adaptive motion vector resolution for video coding

A method and apparatus for applying entropy coding to a symbol associated with a block are disclosed. According to the present invention, context-based entropy coding is applied to source symbols associated with blocks having variable block sizes generated by partitioning an initial block using a quadtree structure, a binary-tree structure or a combined quadtree plus binary-tree structure. Contexts according to the present invention are based on some information derived from neighbouring blocks and also based on at least one of the shape, the size and the depth of the current block since the statistics of the symbols associated with the current block may be correlated with how the current block has been partitioned through a tree structure. A current symbol to be encoded or decoded may correspond to split flags and modes associated with the tree structure, skip flag or prediction mode flag.

A method and apparatus for Intra prediction coding in multi-view video coding, three-dimensional video coding, or screen content video coding are disclosed. A first filtering-disable-flag associated with a high-level video data is determined to indicate whether to disable at least one filter from a filter group. If the first filtering-disable-flag is asserted, one or more selected Intra prediction modes from an Intra prediction mode group is determined, and at least one filter from the filter group for the current block is skipped if the current Intra prediction mode of the current block belongs to the selected Intra prediction modes. A method and apparatus of Inter/Intra prediction for a chroma component performed by a video encoder or video decoder are disclosed. According to this method, a current chroma prediction block (e.g. a prediction unit, PU) is divided into multiple chroma prediction sub-blocks (e.g. sub-PUs). A corresponding luma prediction block is identified for each chroma prediction sub-block. A chroma prediction mode for each chroma prediction sub-block is determined from a luma prediction mode associated with the corresponding luma prediction block. A local chroma predictor for the current chroma prediction block is generated by applying a prediction process to the multiple chroma prediction sub-blocks using respective chroma prediction modes. In other words, the prediction process is applied at the chroma prediction sub-block level. After the local chroma predictor is derived, a coding block associated with the current chroma prediction block is encoded or decoded using information comprising the local chroma predictor.

A method for a three-dimensional encoding or decoding system incorporating sub-block based inter-view motion prediction is disclosed. The system utilizes motion or disparity parameters associated with reference sub-blocks in a reference picture of a reference view corresponding to the texture sub-PCU split from a current texture PU (prediction unit) to predict the motion or disparity parameters of the current texture PU. A method and apparatus for transform coefficient coding of image and video data for a video encoder or decoder are disclosed. The method determines a CG (coding group) size adaptively based on the current TU. The current TU is divided into one or more current CGs (coding groups) according to the CG size. Bins associated with the coefficients of the current TU are then encoded or decoded according to a selected CG scan path through the current TU and one or more coefficient scan paths within each CG. If TU width is larger or smaller than TU height for the current TU, then CG width is selected to be larger or smaller than CG height accordingly. According to another method, all bypass-coded bins associated with coefficients in the current TU are grouped to improve the parsing throughput rate.

Method of video coding using binary tree block partitioning

A method for inter-color residual prediction using an improved scaling parameter coding is disclosed. In one embodiment, a scaling parameter is used for inter-color residual prediction between a first color component and a second color component. The scaling parameter is coded using context-based coding having the same number of context models as the longest binary code for the absolute values of the scaling parameter. For example, when the first scaling parameter is selected from a group consisting of 8, 4, 2, 1, 0, &#x2212;1, &#x2212;2 &#x2212;4 and &#x2212;8, the absolute values of the scaling parameter can be represented by binary codes with the longest binary code having 4 bits. The context-based coding for the absolute scaling parameter also uses 4 context models. In a second embodiment, the scaling parameter is coded using binary codes by assigning a shorter binary code to a larger non-zero scaling parameter.

A motion vector prediction candidate set including one or more TMVPs is then determined. The current block is encoded or decoding using the motion vector prediction candidate set. The reference motion vectors (MVs) are scaled before the reference motion vectors (MVs) are used to derive the TMVPs.
