A drag-reducing formulation includes a polymer composition and a biodegradable fatty acid ester. In certain embodiments, the polymer composition includes at least one latex polymer. The biodegradable fatty acid ester has a structure of RC(═O) OR, where Ris a C-Calkyl or alkenyl group having between zero to three C═C double bonds and Ris a C-Calkyl or alkenyl group. In another aspect, a method of using a drag-reducing formulation involves the steps of deriving a biodegradable fatty acid from a renewable source and mixing the biodegradable fatty acid ester with a polymer composition having at least one latex polymer to obtain the drag-reducing formulation. The method further involves introducing the drag-reducing formulation at an injection point.

Additive to reduce polymer solids deposition at pump head

At least one petroleum coke may be added to an oil-based fluid to improve the electrical conductivity of the oil-based fluid. The oil-based fluid may be a drilling fluid, a completion fluid, a drill-in fluid, a stimulation fluid, a servicing fluid, and combinations thereof. In a non-limiting embodiment, the downhole fluid composition may be circulated in a subterranean reservoir wellbore.

Electrically conductive oil-based fluids

Capped nanoparticles may be added to an oil-based fluid to improve the electrical conductivity of the oil-based fluid. The oil-based fluid may be a drilling fluid, a completion fluid, a drill-in fluid, a stimulation fluid, a servicing fluid, and combinations thereof. In a non-limiting embodiment, the oil-based fluid composition may be circulated in a subterranean reservoir wellbore.

A multi-component scavenging system containing at least one ester and at least one electron-deficient organic compound, together with or without one or more optional components such as an aldehyde having from 4 to 20 carbon atoms, a ketone having from 4 to 20 carbon atoms, an ether, a solvent, an alkali metal salt of an alkyl or dialkyl phenol, an epoxide, an alkyl anhydride, and mixtures thereof, may be used to scavenge contaminants from hydrocarbon and/or aqueous streams. The contaminants scavenged or otherwise removed may include, but are not necessarily limited to, ammonia, primary amines, secondary or tertiary amines, HS, mercaptans, sulfide cyanides, and combinations thereof.

Multi-component scavenging systems

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) and/or mercaptan scavengers are chemicals that remove HS and/or mercaptans from gas, oil and water. Water-based formulations may be made and used employing scavenging compounds having the formulae: wherein each R, R, R, and Rare the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an aryl, an acyl, a halogen, a hydroxyl, a nitro, an alkyl ester, an aryl ester, an alkyl ether, an aryl ether, a hydroxymethyl, an anhydride group, an amino, and a sulfide. In one non-limiting embodiment the compounds (A) and (B) do not contain nitrogen atoms. Water-based formulations, such as those using a protic solvent with the above compounds, work well as HS scavengers.

Water-based formulation of H2S/mercaptan scavenger for fluids in oilfield and refinery applications

A cross-linked phenolic resin demulsifier may be added to a water-in-oil emulsion having at least one foulant therein. The demulsifier may separate at least a portion of the foulant(s) from the water-in-oil emulsion, and the separated foulant(s) may be removed from the water-in-oil emulsion. In a non-limiting embodiment, the amount of the demulsifier present in the water-in-oil emulsion may range from about 0.1 ppm to about 50,000 ppm.

Fluid compositions and methods for using cross-linked phenolic resins

The reaction product resulting from the chemical reaction of an alkyl phenol with an acid or an anhydride selected from the group consisting of a saturated dicarboxylic acid, an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, an anhydride of a saturated dicarboxylic acid, an anhydride of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and combinations thereof, has been discovered to improve the properties of various fluids. In a non-limiting example, the reaction products may have an acid number from about 0 to about 50 that may improve the lubricity and/or corrosion of fuels and lubricants, such as hydrocarbon fuels and lubricants, when added thereto.

Fuel additives for enhanced lubricity and anti-corrosion properties

It has been discovered that metals can be removed or transferred from a hydrocarbon phase to a water phase in an emulsion breaking process by using a composition that contains a demulsifier (for instance, an oxyalkylated alkyl resin and/or a crosslinked polypropylene glycol), a surfactant, a diketone and a solvent (for instance an aromatic solvent). The method may also include introducing a hydroxyl carboxylic acid and/or at least one mineral acid to reduce the pH of the desalter wash water. The method permits transfer of metals into the aqueous phase with little or no hydrocarbon phase undercarry into the aqueous phase. The composition is particularly useful in treating crude oil emulsions, and in removing iron therefrom.

Additives to enhance metal removal in refinery desalting processes

Compounds having the formulae and general formulae: wherein each R, R, Rand Rare the same or different and may be hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a halogen, a nitro group, an alkyl or aryl ester, and an alkyl or aryl ether;compounds having the general formula: wherein R is an alkyl, aryl or electron withdrawing group; mixtures thereof; can be used as additives for crude oil and hydrocarbons. These compounds may be used to scavenge mercaptans, sulfides, cyanides, and primary or secondary amines; either alone or in combination.

Multifunctional scavenger for hydrocarbon fluids

A process for removing a sulfur species from a stream selected from the group consisting of a hydrocarbon stream, an aqueous stream, and mixtures thereof is disclosed herein, which may include introducing a treating mixture into the stream. The treating mixture may include a compound of the general formula selected from the group consisting of: or combinations of compound (I) or compound (II). Rmay be a C-Chydrocarbyl group that is saturated, unsaturated, cyclic or branched, or may contain a heteroatom. 'A' may be an oxygen atom or a methylene group. Rmay be a C-Chydrocarbyl group that may be saturated, unsaturated, cyclic or branched, or may contain a heteroatom(s) other than C and H. The treating mixture may reduce the reactive sulfur species in the stream. The sulfur species reduced from the stream may be hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, polysulfides, or combinations thereof.

Non-nitrogen sulfide sweeteners

The present invention is directed to a series of new compounds, combining the unique properties of fullerenes and bio-active amino acid residues, and to methods for making such compounds. The present invention is directed toward fullerene-based amino acids, and to amino acid residues, peptide chains, proteins, and polypeptides made from such fullerene-based amino acids. The present invention is further directed to amino acid residues, peptide chains, proteins, and polypeptides comprising such fullerene-based amino acids and into which such fullerene-based amino acids have been incorporated. Exemplary compounds have been prepared, and these compounds have been characterized and confirmed with infrared (IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (MS), etc. These new compounds, which are additions to the existing amino acid residue family, may potentially possess useful pharmaceutical application and may provide a new platform for further exploration in cancer therapy, and peptide and protein engineering.

Fullerene-based amino acids

An electric submersible motor is provided that includes a plurality of rotors and bearings mounted on a shaft, and a stator external to said rotors. A running clearance is located between an inner diameter of the stator and external diameter of the rotors, and includes a lubricating oil that includes a base hydrocarbon oil and a plurality of nanoparticles. Also provided is an improved lubricant oil and method of preparation thereof are provided. The lubricant oil includes a hydrocarbon containing base oil and a plurality of nanoparticles. The nanoparticles may be present in an amount up to 30% by volume.

Additives for improving motor oil properties

Mercaptans and/or hydrogen sulfide (HS) in hydrocarbons, naphthas, gasolines, and the like may be scavenged therefrom by being brought into intimate contact with a mercaptan scavenger formulation containing at least one disubstituted azodicarboxylate of the formula ROOCN&#x2550;NCOOR, where Rand Rare independently alkyl groups, alkenyl groups and aromatic groups having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms. These scavengers remove mercaptans and/or HS from hydrocarbons faster than many conventional mercaptan scavengers. An effective scavenging amount of disubstituted azodicarboxylate in the hydrocarbon fluid ranges from about 5 to about 20 parts by weight based on 1 part as sulfur of mercaptan and/or HS.
