A converter system includes a first switch and a controller configured to switch the first switch between first and second states based on input and output voltages of the converter system. The controller includes: a timer unit including a first timer configured to determine a first duration based on a target switching frequency of the converter system; and a second timer configured to determine a second duration based on a predetermined duration equal to or greater than a minimum duration of the first state of the first switch and the input and output voltages; and a control logic unit configured to switch the first switch from the second state to the first state responsive to expiration of both the first and second durations.

Adaptive off-time or on-time DC-DC converter

A converter system includes a first switch and a controller configured to switch the first switch between first and second states based on input and output voltages of the converter system, wherein the controller includes: a timer unit including a first timer configured to determine a first duration based on a target switching frequency of the converter system, and a second timer configured to determine a second duration based on a predetermined duration equal to or greater than a minimum duration of the first state of the first switch and the input and output voltages; and a control logic unit, configured to switch the first switch from the second state to the first state upon expiration of both the first and second durations.

Aspects of the disclosure provide for a circuit. In some examples, the circuit includes a timing circuit and a state machine circuit. The timing circuit determines a relationship between a duty cycle of a power converter and a threshold value. The state machine circuit is coupled to the timing circuit and includes a plurality of states including a buck state, a boost state, and a buck-boost state. The state machine circuit transitions among the plurality of states according to time domain control and voltage domain control, based at least partially on the determined relationship between the duty cycle and the threshold value, transitions among the states according to the time domain control when the time domain control indicates an exit from the buck-boost state, and transitions among the states according to the voltage domain control when the voltage domain control indicates the exit from a buck-boost state.

Wide switching frequency range switched mode power supply control topology

A system includes an input voltage node configured to provide an input voltage (VIN). The system also includes a load (R) and a switching converter coupled between the input voltage node and the load (R). The switching converter is configured to provide an output voltage (VOUT) to the load (R) based on the input voltage (VIN). The switching converter includes gate driver circuitry and a current mode control circuit coupled to the gate driver circuitry. The current mode control circuit is configured to output control signals to the gate driver circuitry in accordance with different modes of operation, wherein the current mode control circuit is configured to adjust a threshold (I*) used to switch between a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and a power save mode (PSM).

The circuit further includes a second charging path comprising a first switch and a second capacitor. The circuit further includes a third charging path comprising a second switch and a third capacitor. The circuit further includes a first discharging path comprising the second capacitor, a third switch coupled between the second charging path and a second output node, and a fourth switch coupled between the second charging path and a fourth node. The circuit further includes a second discharging path comprising the third capacitor, a fifth switch coupled between the third charging path and the second output node, and a sixth switch coupled between the third node and the fourth node.

Adaptive ramp signal generation

A DC-DC converter controller includes a transistor driver, a flip-flop, a comparator, an integrator circuit, a switch, and a pulse generator circuit. The flip-flop includes an output coupled to an input of the transistor driver. The comparator includes an output coupled an input of the flip-flop. The integrator circuit includes an output coupled to an input of the comparator. The switch includes a first terminal coupled to the output of the integrator circuit, and a second terminal coupled to ground. The pulse generator circuit includes an input coupled to an output of the transistor driver, and an output coupled to a third terminal of the switch.

Boost converter

A DC-to-DC converter includes an input voltage node, an inductor, and a switch coupled to the inductor and the input voltage node. More specifically, the switch has an on state and off state, wherein during the on state, current flowing through the inductor increases and the off state results in a decrease of the current flowing through the inductor via a driver coupled to the switch. The driver comprises a plurality of transistors and an adaptive voltage node, wherein a voltage level at the adaptive voltage node is to vary in accordance with the current flowing through the inductor so as to decrease a variation of the amount of time to turn off the switch.
