A solution including an associative polymer, a cyclodextrin polymer, and a solvent is provided. The associative polymer is a powder in the absence of the solvent. Additionally, a method of making down an associative polymer powder to form a solution is provided. The method includes blending a mixture of the powder, a cyclodextrin polymer, and a solvent to yield the solution, wherein the powder includes particles having been dry-cut to a median particle size of from about 200 microns to about 10,000 microns. Additionally, a powder product is provided. The powder product includes from about 80 wt. % to about 99.9 wt. % associative polymer; and from about 0.1 wt. % to about 20 wt. % of a cyclodextrin polymer.

Additives including sulfur-containing compounds are used in methods of treating synthetic gypsum. The additives can thermally stabilize heavy metals, such as mercury. This thermal stabilization reduces mercury release from the synthetic gypsum. Illustrative, non-limiting examples of sulfur-containing compounds include inorganic sulfides, organic sulfides, organic compounds containing nitrogen and sulfur, organic compounds containing oxygen and sulfur, and polymers containing sulfur.

Methods for facilitating the removal of mercury from flue gases by converting elemental mercury to oxidized mercury and subsequently capturing the oxidized mercury. In one aspect, a method of removing mercury from a mercury-containing flue gas may include the steps of introducing into the flue gas a sulfide source in an effective amount to convert elemental mercury to gaseous oxidized mercury and then capturing the gaseous oxidized mercury.

A method and composition for the reduction of the emission of selenium into the environment from the burning of fossil fuels with the use of two chemistries, either individually or in combination with each other. The method uses polydithiocarbamic compounds, including polydithiocarbamic compounds derived from a polymer produced from acrylic-x and alkylamine in conjunction with a scrubber process to capture selenium and reduce its emission in aqueous phase blowdown. The method and composition also helps reduce corrosion in the scrubber process.

Corrosion control in and selenium removal from flue gas wet scrubber systems

Disclosed are methods for controlling, mercury emissions, and more particularly, to methods for controlling mercury re-emissions from a wet flue gas desulfurizer used in a combustion process. A method of controlling mercury re-emission from a combustion process includes measuring either mercury concentration, oxidation-reduction, potential (ORP), and/or sulfide concentration within a scrubber liquor of a wet flue gas desulpherizer (wFGD); correlating the mercury concentration, ORP, and /or sulfide concentration with an amount of mercury re-emission additive required in the scrubber liquor to reduce and/or prevent mercury re-emission to a selected level; and adjusting the rate of addition of mercury re-emission additive into the scrubber liquor to attain the selected level of mercury re-emission.
