A thermal control system with new phase change material (PCM) formulations that are able to maintain the system interior in a temperature range of, for example, &#x2212;15 to &#x2212;40&#xb0; C., for a tunable working period from several hours to approximately half a day, is provided. The composition includes the inorganic and organic materials. The inorganic materials include the inorganic salts and various functional additives; while the organic materials include fatty acids, hydrocarbons and various nanostructures.

The invention relates to macro- and micro-liquid marbles (i.e. droplets of liquid with a particulate-based shell), and in particular, to photo-responsive macro- and micro-liquid marbles encapsulating a substance therein. Methods for forming the macro- and micro-liquid marbles, and use of the macro- and micro-liquid marbles, in controlled release applications are also disclosed.

A copolymer for modifying rheology is formed of monomer units consisting essentially of at least one first monomer unit comprising a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane having an ethylenically unsaturated radical; at least one second monomer unit comprising an unsaturated oligo-poly(dimethyl siloxane)(meth)acrylate; and a sufficient amount of at least one unsaturated water-soluble monomer, such that the copolymer is soluble in water. A composition may comprise an electrolyte and the copolymer. The rheology of an environment comprising an electrolyte may be modified by adding the copolymer to the environment.
