According to an embodiment of the invention, there is provided a heating element including a substrate, a conductive layer disposed over the substrate to define a first conductive trace and a second conductive trace with a spacer therebetween and a resistive layer covering the first conductive trace, the second conductive trace and the spacer wherein the resistive layer at least partially electrically connects the first and the second conductive traces.

Heating element, fluid heating device, inkjet printhead, and print cartridge having the same and method of making the same

An electrical interconnect for an inkjet printhead comprising an ink-ejecting semiconductor die is described. The ink-ejecting die further comprises a substrate having an opposing upper surface, lower surface, and a thin film stack. The upper surface of the substrate is beveled on at least one edge such that a lower portion of the bevel is below an upper portion of the bevel. A conductive material trace is disposed on top of at least a portion of the upper surface and the thin film stack and on the bevel towards the lower portion of the bevel. An electrical conductor is coupled to the conductive material trace at a predetermined location below the upper portion of the bevel. In a preferred embodiment of the current invention, the conductive material trace is substantially below the surface of the printhead thereby creating a robust printhead having several advantages including but not limited to: (1) electrical interconnects that are solidified in an encapsulant and therefore protected from chemical etching of the ink and vibrational/physical forces generated by the printer, (2) minimized die to printing medium distance and (3) minimized ESD effects on the beveled die.

Electrical interconnect for an inkjet die

An ink-firing element is provided. The ink-firing element has a resistor for generating ink droplets, a substrate atop which the resistor rests and a barrier layer atop the substrate. The barrier layer in a closed-loop design and at least partially defines an ink-firing chamber, which surrounds the resistor and temporarily contains ink. The ink-firing element also includes an orifice plate supported by the barrier layer for providing an orifice through which the ink droplets are ejected onto a medium and a trench in the substrate for replenishment of ink. The trench terminates at an outlet in the ink-firing chamber and is in fluid communication with an ink refill channel, which supplies ink from a reservoir to the ink-firing element.
