Provided are multilayer structures and articles comprising same. The multilayer structure comprises: a biaxially-oriented polyethylene film comprising a skin layer with a matte surface and a core, the core comprising one or more core layers; a sealant film; and an adhesive adhering the sealant film to the matte surface of the skin layer of the biaxially-oriented polyethylene film. The multilayer structure can exhibit an enhanced adhesive bonding force in comparison to other multilayer structures.

Multilayer structures with enhanced adhesive bonding force and articles comprising the same

The polymer blend includes at least 90% by weight low density polyethylene (LDPE) polymer and from 1% to 10% by weight acid copolymer based on the total weight of the polymer blend. In the polymer blend, the LDPE polymer has a melt index (I? 2 #191) from 2 g/10 min to 8 g/10 min as determined in accordance with ASTM D1238, and a molecular weight distribution from 5 to 10.5. In the polymer blend, the acid copolymer is a polymerized reaction product of: at least 60% by weight ethylene, based on the total weight of the monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer; from 1% to 20% by weight monocarboxylic acid monomer, based on the total weight of the monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer; and from 0 to 20% by weight alkyl acrylate monomer, based on the total weight of the monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer.

A first oriented film comprising a first polyethylene composition which comprises: from 20 to 50 wt % of a first linear low density polyethylene polymer having a density greater than 0.925 g/cc and an Ilower than 2 g/10 min; and from 80 to 50 wt % of a second linear low density polyethylene polymer having a density lower than or equal to 0.925 g/cc and an Igreater than or equal to 2 g/10 min; wherein the first polyethylene composition has an Ifrom 0.5 to 10 g/10 min and a density from 0.910 to 0.940 g/cc is provided.

Oriented polyethylene films and a method for making the same

Embodiments of the present invention relate to multilayer structures and articles formed therefrom. In one aspect, a multilayer structure comprises (a) a biaxially oriented polyethylene film comprising a linear low density polyethylene having a density of 0.910 to 0.940 g/cm, wherein the ultimate elongation in the machine direction of the biaxially oriented polyethylene film is at least 2 times greater than the ultimate elongation in the cross direction, and wherein the ultimate tensile strength of the biaxially oriented polyethylene film is at least 60 MPa in at least one of the machine direction and the cross direction; (b) an adhesive layer; and (c) a sealant film, wherein the ultimate elongation of the sealant film is at least 300% in at least one of the machine direction and the cross direction, wherein the ultimate tensile strength of the sealant film is less than 50 MPa in at least one of the machine direction and the cross direction, and wherein the sealant film has a heat seal initiation temperature of 105° C. or less; wherein the sealant film is laminated to the biaxially oriented polyethylene film by the adhesive. In some embodiments, the sealant film comprises at least one layer comprising at least 30 percent by weight of a polyolefin plastomer, a polyolefin elastomer, an ultra low density polyethylene, an ethylene acetate copolymer, an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer, or an ethylene acrylate copolymer.

Process to form a composition containing functionalized and un-functionalized ethylene-based polymers

The present disclosure is concerned with a method of forming a seal with a polyethylene based film structure. The polyethylene based film structure has at least one layer formed with an oriented polyethylene having a predetermined melting temperature (T). A conductive heat sealing device provides heat to form the seal, where a first sealing bar of the conductive heat sealing device operates at a first operating temperature of at least 10 degrees Celsius (° C.) below the Tof the oriented polyethylene in the polyethylene based film structure and a second sealing bar of the conductive heat sealing device operates at a second operating temperature of at least 15° C. higher than the operating temperature of the first sealing bar. The seal formed with the polyethylene based film structure retains at least 99 percent of its original surface area prior to forming the seal.

A biaxially-oriented polyethylene (BOPE) multilayer film comprises a skin layer with a matte surface and a core, the skin layer with a matte surface comprising, in weight percent (wt %) based upon the weight of the skin layer: (1) from 20 to 80 wt % of an ethylene-based polymer, and (2) from 80 to 20 wt % of a propylene-based polymer; each of the ethylene-based polymer and the propylene-based polymer having a storage modulus, with a difference between the storage modulus of the ethylene-based polymer and the propylene-based polymer of greater than 40 megaPascals (MPa) at 110&#xb0; C., and greater than 18 MPa at 120&#xb0; C.

Biaxially-oriented polyethylene multilayer film with a matte surface

The present invention provides polymer blends that can be used in a multilayer structure and to multilayer structures comprising one or more layers formed from such blends. In one aspect, a polymer blend comprises (a) a copolymer comprising ethylene and at least one of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid having an acid content of 2 to 21 weight percent based on the weight of the copolymer, wherein the amount of copolymer (a) comprises 20-80 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend, and (b) a copolymer comprising ethylene and at least one of methyl acrylate and ethyl acrylate having an acrylate content of 5 to 30 weight percent based on the weight of the copolymer, wherein the amount of copolymer (b) comprises 10 to 50 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend, wherein the amount of copolymer (a) and copolymer (b) is at least 70 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend.

Polymer blends for use in multilayer structure and multilayer structures comprising the same

Provided is a coextruded multilayer film. The coextruded multilayer film has at least two layers, including a sealant layer and a second layer in contact with the sealant layer. The sealant layer contains (A) a first ethylene-based polymer having a density from 0.865 g/cc to 0.930 g/cc and a melt index from 0.5 g/10 min to 25 g/10 min; (B) an unsaturated primary fatty acid amide having a melting point of 100&#xb0; C. or less; and (C) a diprotic fatty acid having a melting point greater than 100&#xb0; C. and a decomposition temperature greater than 200&#xb0; C. The second layer contains a second ethylene-based polymer. Also provided is a laminate containing said sealant layer.

Multilayer films and laminates containing slip agents

The present invention discloses a process for forming a biaxially oriented film. The process includes first selecting a polyolefin resin wherein said polyolefin resin comprises a linear low density polyethylene resin characterized by having from 9 to 35 weight percent of the total weight of linear low density polyethylene resin eluting from a CEF at a temperature greater than 97.0&#xb0; C.; and further characterized by having a CDR of from 33 to 80 and a Mw Ratio of from 0.15 to 0.45. Next a film is formed from the polyolefin resin selected in the first step. Finally the film formed in the second step is oriented in a sequential manner. The films produced by this process are characterized by having an ultimate elongation at least 1.5 times greater in the MD as compared to the CD and the 2% secant modulus is a least 1.25 times greater in the CD as compared to the MD. The films are further characterized by having free residual shrinkage of less than 10% in the MD and less than 10% in the CD when exposed to a temperature of 90&#xb0; C. for 10 minutes.

Bioriented polyethylene film

The coextruded multilayer film has at least two layers, including a sealant layer and a second layer in contact with the sealant layer. The sealant layer contains (A) a first ethylene-based polymer having a density from 0.865 g/cc to 0.930 g/cc and a melt index from 0.5 g/10 min to 25 g/10 min; (B) an unsaturated primary fatty acid amide having a melting point of 100&#xb0; C. or less; and (C) a saturated primary fatty acid amide having a melting point greater than 100&#xb0; C. The unsaturated primary fatty acid amide and the saturated primary fatty acid amide have a weight ratio of from 3:1 to 1:6. The second layer contains a second ethylene-based polymer. The present disclosure also provides a laminate containing said sealant layer.

Embodiments of the present invention relate to biaxially oriented, multilayer polyethylene films and to laminates and articles formed therefrom. In one aspect, a biaxially oriented, multilayer polyethylene film comprises Layer A which is a sealant layer p having a top facial surface and a bottom facial surface and comprising a first polyethylene, wherein the first polyethylene has a density of at least 0.900 g/cm, an Iof 20-60 kg/mol, and a MWof greater than 130 kg/mol, wherein Layer A comprises at least 50 weight percent of the first polyethylene based on the weight of Layer A, and Layer B having a top facial surface and a bottom facial surface, wherein Layer B comprises one or more additional polyethylenes, and wherein the top facial surface of Layer B is in adhering contact with a bottom facial surface of Layer A, wherein the density of the first polyethylene is at least 0.002 g/cmless than the density of Layer B.

Multilayer films and laminates and articles comprising the same

Disclosed herein is a multilayered film comprising a first layer and a second layer; and a tie layer; where the tie layer comprises a crystalline block composite and where the tie layer is disposed between the first layer and the second layer; the first layer being disposed on a first surface of the tie layer; the second layer being disposed on a second surface of the tie layer; where the second surface is opposedly disposed to the first surface; where the multilayered film is biaxially oriented. Disclosed herein too is a method of manufacturing the aforementioned multilayer film.
