Methods and apparatus for feeding back channel quality indication in a communication system. First, a first channel quality indication index is determined in dependence upon a channel quality estimation of a first transmission channel, and a second channel quality indication index is determined in dependence upon a channel quality estimation of a second transmission channel. A differential channel quality indication index of the second channel quality indication index is determined with reference to the first channel quality indication index in dependence upon a differential compression scheme. Then, the first channel quality indication index and the differential channel quality indication index are reported.

Methods and apparatus for channel quality indication feedback in a communication system

A method and apparatus for channel interleaving in a wireless communication system. In one aspect of the present invention, the data resource elements are assigned to multiple code blocks, and the numbers of data resource elements assigned to each code block are substantially equal. In another aspect of the present invention, a time-domain-multiplexing-first (TDM-first) approach and a frequency-domain-multiplexing-first (FDM-first) approach are proposed. In the TDM-first approach, at least one of a plurality of code blocks are assigned with a number of consecutive data carrying OFDM symbols. In the FDM-first approach, at least one of the plurality of code blocks are assigned with all of the data carrying OFDM symbols. Either one of the TDM first approach and the FDM-first approach may be selected in dependence upon the number of the code blocks, or the transport block size, or the data rate.

Methods and apparatus for channel interleaving in OFDM systems

Methods and apparatus for transmitting power setting information in a downlink Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) in a communication system. In this communication system, a plurality of methods for calculating traffic-to-pilot ratios (T2P) are established. In addition, a mapping scheme between a plurality of overhead signals and a plurality of reference signal (RS) overhead ratios, &#x3b7;, and the plurality of T2P calculation methods is established. A user-specific T2P ratio P/Pfor certain OFDM symbols, a RS overhead ratio &#x3b7;and a calculation method selected from the plurality of T2P calculation methods are assigned to a wireless terminal. Then, an overhead signal corresponding to both of the assigned RS overhead ratio &#x3b7;and the assigned T2P calculation method is selected in accordance with the mapping scheme and is transmitted to the wireless terminal. In addition, the user-specific traffic-to-pilot ratio P/Pis transmitted to the wireless terminal. The wireless terminal may calculate the traffic-to-pilot ratios across different transmission antennas and different OFDM symbols in dependence upon the received traffic-to-pilot ratio P/P, and the RS overhead ratio and the T2P calculation method indicated by the RS overhead signal.

Methods and apparatus for downlink PDSCH power setting

In a communication system, a base station transmits power setting information in a downlink Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH). A mapping scheme between overhead signals and reference signal (RS) overhead ratios, and the traffic-to-pilot ratios (T2P) calculation methods are established. A user-specific T2P ratio for certain OFDM symbols, a RS overhead ratio and a calculation method selected from the plurality of T2P calculation methods are assigned to a wireless terminal. An overhead signal corresponding to the assigned RS overhead ratio and the assigned T2P calculation method is selected in accordance with the mapping scheme and transmitted to the wireless terminal. In addition, the user-specific traffic-to-pilot ratio is transmitted to the wireless terminal. The wireless terminal calculates the traffic-to-pilot ratios across different transmission antennas and different OFDM symbols based on the received traffic-to-pilot ratio, the RS overhead ratio and the T2P calculation method indicated by the RS overhead signal.

Methods and circuits for assigning pilot boosting factors and calculating traffic to pilot ratios in a wireless communication system. The data to be transmitted is first modulated to generate a plurality of data modulation symbols. The plurality of data modulation symbols and a plurality of reference signal symbols are mapped into transmission resources of each of a plurality of antennas in accordance with a transmit diversity scheme. The transmission resources of each of the antennas are divided into a plurality of subcarriers in a frequency domain and a plurality of time units in a time domain. Then, a power scaling factor are assigned for data modulation symbols on each of the antennas in dependence upon power levels of the reference signal symbols to maintain a fixed power level across the plurality of antennas in each time unit. Finally, the data modulation symbols and the reference signal symbols are transmitted via the plurality of antennas in accordance with the mapping scheme and the assigned scaling factors.

Pilot boosting and traffic to pilot ratio estimation in a wireless communication system

A system and method for relaying data communications in a Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) network. The system and method operable to receive a data communication packet from a base station during a first transmission time interval and simultaneously receive an acknowledgement signal from a subscriber station; and transmit a data communication packet to a subscriber station during a second transmission time interval and simultaneously transmit an acknowledgement signal to a base station.

Methods and apparatus to improve communication in a relay channel

Methods and apparatus for determining the starting points of redundancy version transmissions in a circular rate matching operation. At least one block of information bits to be transmitted are encoded to generate a plurality of coded bits, which are then segmented into a plurality of sub-blocks of coded bits. Each of the sub-blocks of coded bits is interleaved by using a certain interleaver. The interleaved coded bits of the plurality of sub-blocks are collected and filled into a circular buffer having a plurality of redundancy versions in the circular buffer, with each redundancy version corresponding to a starting bit index in the circular buffer. For each transmission, a subset of bits are selected from the circular buffer by selecting a redundancy version from among the plurality of redundancy version. The selected subset of bits are modulated by using a certain modulation scheme, and are transmitted via at least one antenna. The redundancy versions of the circular being determined such that in at least one pair of redundancy versions, the number of bits between the starting point of a first redundancy version and the starting point of a second redundancy version is not divisible by at least one modulation order.
