A method of manufacturing a window assembly having a solderless electrical connector includes forming a curved transparent substrate and applying a conductive ink having a thermal degradation temperature onto a surface of the curved transparent substrate. The method further includes applying an adhesive onto the surface of the curved transparent substrate adjacent to the conductive ink and optionally onto the applied conductive ink, and curing the adhesive at a temperature below the thermal degradation temperature of the conductive ink to form the solderless electrical connector with the solderless electrical connector being in electrical contact with the applied conductive ink.

A treated substrate includes a low emissivity coating layer disposed on a substrate and a high emissivity coating layer disposed on the low emissivity coating layer. The low emissivity coating layer is formed a low emissivity coating composition including silver, or indium tin oxide, or fluorine-doped tin oxide, while the high emissivity coating layer is formed from a high emissivity coating composition including a carbon-doped silicon oxide. The treated substrate has an emissivity of from 0.7 to less than 1.0 at wavelengths ranging from 8 micrometers to 13 micrometers and has an emissivity of greater than 0 to 0.3 at wavelengths less than 6 micrometers. The treated substrate also maintains a visually acceptable mechanical brush durability resistance for at least 150 test cycles tested in accordance with ASTM D2486-17.

Substantially transparent substrates including high and low emissivity coating layers

Techniques are provided for making a coated article including an antibacterial and/or antifungal coating. In certain example embodiments, the method includes providing a first sputtering target including Zr; providing a second sputtering target including Zn; and co-sputtering from at least the first and second sputtering targets in the presence of nitrogen to form a layer including ZnZrNon a glass substrate. These layers may be heat-treated or thermally tempered to form a single layer including ZnZrO. In other examples, two discrete layers of Zn and Zr may be formed. The coating may be heated or tempered to form a single layer including ZnZrO. Coated articles made using these methods may have antibacterial and/or antifungal properties.

In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes a doped zirconium based layer before heat treatment (HT). The coated article is heat treated sufficiently to cause the doped zirconium oxide and/or nitride based layer to result in a doped zirconium oxide based layer that is scratch resistant and/or chemically durable. The doping of the layer has been found to improve scratch resistance.

A radiation-curable ink composition for application to glass, ceramic, or metal by an inkjet printer. The ink composition can be applied to a glass, ceramic, or metal substrate to decorate, protect, etc. the substrate. In some embodiments, the ink composition includes a glass frits component, a chromophore component, and a UV-curable component. The glass frits component facilitates the fusing of the ink component with a glass, ceramic, or metal substrate to which the ink composition is applied. The chromophore component is the primary colorant of the ink composition. The UV-curable component facilitates activation of polymerization upon exposure to ultra-violet (UV) radiation, which causes the ink composition to cure and fix/pin to the underlying substrate. After the ink composition is applied to a substrate and cured by exposure to UV radiation, the substrate is heated to a temperature that causes the ink composition to fuse with the substrate.

Radiation-curable inkjet ink for application to glass, ceramic, or metal

In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes a tungsten-doped zirconium based layer before heat treatment (HT). The coated article is heat treated sufficiently to cause the tungsten-doped zirconium oxide and/or nitride based layer to result in a tungsten-doped zirconium oxide based layer that is scratch resistant and/or chemically durable. The doping of the layer with tungsten has been found to improve scratch resistance.

Heat treatable coated article with tungsten-doped zirconium based layer(s) in coating

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to coated articles including anti-fingerprint and/or smudge-reducing coatings, and/or methods of making the same. Oil from fingerprints and the like may easily transfer to the surface of an article. However, it has been found that in certain example embodiments, a reduced-smudge and reduced-glare effect on a glass substrate may be achieved by micro-engineering a glass surface's properties, such as surface morphology and/or roughness. In certain example embodiments, a thin film coating may be introduced to the glass surface in order to alter the contact angle of the article, or for other optical, electrical, mechanical, chemical and/or environmental purposes and/or durability. It has further advantageously been found that by altering the contact angle of the surface, the anti-smudge and anti-glare effects of the substrate may be further improved.

Coated articles including anti-fingerprint and/or smudge-reducing coatings, and/or methods of making the same

A method of making a heat treated coated article includes forming at least one layer comprising diamond-like carbon (DLC) on a glass substrate, and forming a removable protective film on the glass substrate over at least the layer comprising DLC. The removable protective film includes first and second inorganic layers, the first inorganic layer comprising zinc oxide and nitrogen and being located between the layer comprising DLC and the second inorganic layer. The glass substrate may be heat treated so that during the heat treating the protective film prevents significant burnoff of the layer comprising DLC.

Method of making heat treated coated article using diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating and protective film

There is provided a method of making a heat treated (HT) coated article to be used in shower door applications, window applications, or any other suitable applications where transparent coated articles are desired. For example, certain embodiments of this invention relate to a method of making a coated article including a step of heat treating a glass substrate coated with at least a layer of or including diamond-like carbon (DLC) and an overlying protective film thereon. In certain example embodiments, the protective film may be of or include both (a) an oxygen blocking or barrier layer, and (b) a release layer. Following and/or during heat treatment (e.g., thermal tempering, or the like) the protective film may be removed. Other embodiments of this invention relate to the pre-HT coated article, or the post-HT coated article.

There is provided a method of making a heat treated (HT) coated article to be used in shower door applications, window applications, or any other suitable applications where transparent coated articles are desired. For example, certain embodiments of this invention relate to a method of making a coated article including a step of heat treating a glass substrate coated with at least a layer of or including diamond-like carbon (DLC) and an overlying protective film thereon. In certain example embodiments, the protective film may be of or include an oxide of zinc. Following and/or during heat treatment (e.g., thermal tempering, or the like) the protective film may be removed. Other embodiments of this invention relate to the pre-HT coated article, or the post-HT coated article.

In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes a Zn-doped zirconium based layer before heat treatment (HT). The coated article is heat treated sufficiently to cause the Zn-doped zirconium based layer to transform into a Zn-doped zirconium oxide based layer that is scratch resistant and/or chemically durable. The doping of the layer with Zn has been found to improve scratch resistance and/or corrosion resistance.
