An electronic device may have a hinge that allows the device to be flexed about a bend axis. A display may span the bend axis. To facilitate bending about the bend axis, the display may have layers such as a display cover layer with grooves or other recesses. The recesses form a flexible portion in the display layer. The display layer may be formed from glass or other materials that are transparent. Elastomeric material, fluids, and other materials may be placed in the recesses in the display layer. The material in the display layer may have an index of refraction that is matched to the index of refraction of the display layer. A hinge may be formed between rigid planar layers that are separated by a gap. Flexible layers that lie flush with opposing surfaces of the rigid planar layers may be used to span the gap.

In an example implementation, a mobile communication device assembly includes a housing having an opening configured and sized to support a display screen of a mobile communication device. A controller is mounted in the housing and configured to communicably couple to the mobile communication device. An angular adjustment assembly is mounted in the housing and including a first motor electrically coupled to the controller; a first gear assembly driveably coupled to the first motor; and a support member coupled to the first gear assembly and extendable, with the first gear assembly, from a first position flush with the housing to a second position angularly extended from the housing.

An electronic device may have a flexible display that overlaps an axis. The display may be supported by a housing. The housing may have first and second portions that rotate relative to each other about the axis. The housing may be placed in an unfolded configuration to support the display in a planar state. The housing may also be placed in a folded configuration by rotating the first and second portions relative to each other. A hinge mechanism may be used to ensure adequate separation between the first and second portions when the housing is bent. Movable flaps may be retracted when the housing is bent to create room for a bent portion of the display.

A magnetic attachment mechanism and method is described. The magnetic attachment mechanism can be used to releasably attach at least two objects together in a preferred configuration without fasteners and without external intervention. The magnetic attachment mechanism can be used to releasably attach an accessory device to an electronic device. The accessory device can be used to augment the functionality of usefulness of the electronic device.

A portable electronic device, having a single piece housing to carry operational components having a front opening, an integral bottom and sidewalls that cooperate to form a cavity in cooperation with the front opening. The operational components can include a display to present visual content disposed within the front opening and having an outermost protective layer, a main logic board that extends along a central portion of the cavity having a size and shape that bisects the cavity into a first portion and a second portion each having substantially the same size and shape, a power storage system supported at the bottom wall and comprising a first power storage unit located in the first portion and second power storage unit located in the second portion, each being coupled to the main logic board, and self-contained audio components positioned at each corner of the single piece housing.

The disclosure relates to technology for preventing a drop event for a mobile device. Sensor data is collected from the mobile device using one or more sensors to determine a pattern and/or current behavior of a user. A potential drop event risk of the mobile device is then determined based on the pattern and/or the current behavior of the user, and a notification is sent to the user of the mobile device indicating the potential drop risk when the pattern and/or the current behavior of the user is determined to satisfy a threshold risk level.

The 360-degree camera accessory includes a camera module disposed partially within the camera accessory, where the camera module including an optical lens configured to capture an image of a scene. The 360-degree camera accessory also includes a rigid structure disposed within the accessory to support the camera module, and a deformable structure disposed between a camera barrel that surrounds the optical lens of the camera module and the rigid structure. The deformable structure can compensate for movement of the camera module to improve image capturing of the scene.

Disclosed here are systems and methods which enable high-bandwidth communication between a mobile device and an accessory. The high-bandwidth communication uses electromagnetic waves in the extremely high frequency range between 30 GHz and 300 GHz inclusive, also known as millimeter waves. The millimeter waves travel through at least the chassis of the accessory and the chassis of the mobile device without significant scattering and attenuation. The properties of the materials through which the millimeter waves travel determine the attenuation of the millimeter waves. Disclosed here are various materials, and their thicknesses, which form a transmission stack through which the millimeter waves can travel unimpeded. In effect, the transmission stack acts as a dielectric member which facilitates the transmission of the millimeter waves, while attenuating transmission of waves outside of the extremely high frequency range.
