In some implementations, a method in a user equipment (UE) for adaptively determining a wakeup period includes determining a power level of a Downlink (DL) transmission from a base station during a first wakeup period within a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) inactive time. The UE deactivates a RF receiver in response to the determination of the second wakeup period. The UE activates the RF receiver at a beginning of the second wakeup period prior to a DRX active time. Method and system for battery energy savings for carrier aggregation

Systems and methods can be implemented on a wireless device and base stations to facilitate uplink synchronization. The wireless device can transmit a random access preamble to at least one base station serving the wireless device to initiate a random access procedure. The wireless device can identify a signal propagation time associated with the position of the wireless device and the position of the at least one base station serving the wireless device. The wireless device can also identify a positive time advance based on the identified signal propagation time for transmitting the random access preamble. Further, the wireless device can transmit the random access preamble to the at least one base station based on the identified time advance for random access.

A method of updating map data entails capturing an image using a camera, determining a location of an object in the image, creating new map data to represent the object in the image, and updating a map database to include the new map data for the object in the image. This method may be implemented on a GPS-enabled wireless communications device having an onboard camera which can transmit the new map data to a map server for updating its map database. Determining the position of the object in the image relative to the wireless device may be accomplished using a rangefinder and compass, triangulation of multiple images of the object, or a stereoscopic camera. The accuracy of the GPS position fix may be improved by capturing images of recognizable objects for which location coordinates are available.

An apparatus has a first communication module and a second communication module. The first communication module is compatible with a first wireless communication technology, and the second communication module is compatible with a second wireless communication technology that differs from the first wireless communication technology. Transmissions by the second communication module may contribute to interference at the first communication module. The first communication module refrains from advertising support for any data rate that is not expected to be sufficiently resilient in the face of interference caused by transmissions from the second communication module.

Systems and methods can be implemented on a user device and eNBs to manage downlink interference at the user device. The user device in a cell associated with a corresponding serving base station may receive interference from one or more interfering base stations.
