A string of solar cells is disclosed. The sides of the solar cells have a corrugated shape which forms an opening when the solar cells are arranged in a shingled manner. The solar cells are electrically connected in series by a ribbon that passes through the opening. A wire mesh used to decrease solar cell resistance is also disclosed.

Ribbons for use in shingled solar cells

A high efficiency configuration for a solar cell module comprises solar cells arranged in an overlapping shingled manner and methods for assembling solar cells in a shingled manner. Solar cells in the module are electrically connected in series by front side ribbons and separate rear side ribbons. The front-side ribbons have a smaller cross-sectional width while the rear-side ribbons are thinner and wider.

A string of shingled solar cells is disclosed. The string of shingled solar cells has flexible joints connecting the solar cells made from cured liquid polymeric adhesive. An electrically conductive interconnect passes through the flexible joint. The string of shingled solar cells also has interconnect reinforcements made from cured liquid polymeric adhesive to improve interconnect adhesion to the front surface of the solar cells.

Protected interconnects for low stress solar cell shingling and improved aesthetics

A groove is cut along a line between adjacent solar cells of a wafer. A coating powder is processed to form a coating layer on the surface of the groove. The solar cells are thereafter physically separated from each other along the groove, with the coating layer serving as an edge coat. The solar cells are electrically connected in series and packaged in a solar module.
