In at least one embodiment, a process to produce a poly alpha-olefin (PAO) includes introducing a first alpha-olefin to a first catalyst system comprising activator and a metallocene compound into a continuous stirred tank reactor or a continuous tubular reactor under first reactor conditions to form a first reactor effluent. The first alpha-olefin is introduced to the reactor at a flow rate of about 100 g/hr or more. The first reactor effluent includes at least 60 wt % of PAO dimer and 40 wt % or less of higher oligomers, where the higher oligomers are oligomers that have a degree of polymerization of 3 or more. The process includes introducing the first reactor effluent and a second alpha-olefin to a second catalyst composition including an acid catalyst in a second reactor to form a second reactor effluent comprising PAO trimer.

Processes to produce poly alpha-olefin trimer and apparatus therefor

Catalyst systems and processes for poly alpha-olefin having high vinylidene content

Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive, non-radioactive, and low cost technology for diagnosis and identification of implantable medical devices in real time. Developing new ultrasound activated coatings is important to broaden the utility of in vivo marking by ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound responsive macro-phase segregated micro-composite thin films were developed to be coated on medical devices composed of multiple materials and with multiple shapes and varying surface area. The macro-phase segregated in films having silica micro-shells in polycyanoacrylate produces strong color Doppler signals with the use of a standard clinical ultrasound transducer. Electron microscopy showed a macro-phase separation during slow curing of the cyanoacrylate adhesive, as air-filled silica micro-shells were driven to the surface of the film. The air sealed in the hollow space of the silica shells acted as an ultrasound contrast agent and echo decorrelation of air exposed to ultrasound waves produces color Doppler signals.

The present disclosure generally relates to processes to produce alpha-olefin oligomers and poly alpha-olefins. In an embodiment, a process to produce a poly alpha-olefin (PAO) includes introducing a first alpha-olefin and a first catalyst system comprising a metallocene compound into a continuous stirred tank reactor or a continuous tubular reactor under first reactor conditions to form a first reactor effluent. The alpha-olefin is introduced to the reactor at a flow rate of about 100 g/hr or more. The first reactor effluent includes PAO dimer comprising at least 96 mol % of vinylidene and 4 mol % or less of trisubstituted vinylene and disubstituted vinylene, based on total moles of vinylidene, trisubstituted vinylene, and disubstituted vinylene. The method includes introducing the first reactor effluent, a second alpha-olefin and a second catalyst composition comprising an acid catalyst into a second reactor under second reactor conditions to form a second reactor effluent comprising PAO trimer.

Processes to produce poly alpha-olefin trimers

A harmonic light-generating metasurface includes a base substrate and a plurality of structures, that include nonlinear material, that are disposed in a pattern on a surface of the base substrate. Each structure of the plurality of structures individually supports a magnetic dipole mode. An electromagnetic field enhancement of the magnetic dipole mode induces generation of a harmonic signal by the plurality of structures. Alternatively, a harmonic light-generating metasurface, includes a base substrate, a supporting substrate that includes a nonlinear material, and a plurality of paired structures disposed in a pattern on a surface of the supporting substrate. Each paired structure, of the plurality of paired structures, collectively supports a toroidal dipole mode. Pellet-stable olefinic copolymer bimodal rubber is made using parallel reactors, with one reactor synthesizing higher molecular weight (MW) rubber with dual catalysts, with an improved molecular weight split ratio and an improved composition distribution of the moderate and ultra-high MW components, while another reactor synthesizes random isotactic polypropylene copolymer (RCP). The effluents are reactor-blended and result in pellet-stable bimodal rubber (P-SBR), which may be pelletized. When making thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) with P-SBR, the need to granulate rubber bales and subsequently use talc, clay, or other anti-agglomeration agents to prevent granulated rubber crumbs from agglomerating are eliminated. TPVs made with P-SBR have vulcanized rubber particles that are smaller and more uniform in size, resulting in TPVs with higher particle counts and more thermoplastic 'ligaments' between the particles, with such ligaments being made stronger by the added RCP. Such thus-produced TPVs have a lower hysteresis and flexural modulus, and better elastic properties.
