Disclosed is a liquid crystal compound with negative dielectric anisotropy, having a general formula as Formula 1.  In Formula 1, each of L, L, L, and L, being same or different, is hydrogen, halogen, or cyano group. Each of Rand R, being same or different, is hydrogen, halogen, Calkyl group, Calkoxy group, Chaloalkyl group, Calkenyl group, Cether group, or Calkynyl group. Each of Aand A, being same or different, is benzene, cyclohexane, or cyclohexene. Zis &#x2014;CFO&#x2014;, or &#x2014;OCF&#x2014;, and Zis &#x2014;CFO&#x2014;, or &#x2014;OCF&#x2014;.

The present invention relates to chiral binaphthyl compounds having good solubility and high helical twisting power. The chiral binaphthyl compounds as dopants in the liquid crystal compositions can help enhance the display quality of the liquid crystal panels.
