A feedback loop circuit of a voltage regulator includes a loadline and a compensation circuit. The loadline generates a feedback signal according to a sensed current signal that provides information of an inductor current of the voltage regulator, and outputs the feedback signal to a controller circuit of the voltage regulator for regulating an output voltage of the voltage regulator. The compensation circuit generates a compensation signal to compensate for a deviation of the output voltage, wherein the feedback signal generated from the loadline is affected by the compensation signal.

Apparatus and method for applying dynamic compensation to feedback signal generated from loadline of voltage regulator

A sub-circuit of a voltage regulator includes a load condition detection circuit and a controllable circuit. The load condition detection circuit is arranged to detect a load transient frequency of a load powered by the voltage regulator, and generate a control signal according to a detection result of the load transient frequency. The controllable circuit is arranged to receive the control signal, wherein an operational behavior of the controllable circuit dynamically changes in response to the control signal.

A voltage converter controller, adapted to a voltage converter circuit, includes a power switch controller and a dead-time determining circuit. The power switch controller receives a PWM signal and outputs a high-side control signal and a low-side control signal accordingly to control the conduction and cut-off of a high-side power switch and a low-side power switch respectively. When the power switch controller starts to control the low-side power switch cut-off, after a first dead-time, the power switch controller starts to control the high-side power switch conducting. The dead-time determining circuit detects a current of the low-side power switch to be larger or smaller than a threshold current when the low-side power switch is conducted, and determines the first dead-time to be a first value or a second value accordingly.

A power converter control circuit includes a feedback circuit and a pulse width modulation signal generating circuit for configuring a power stage circuit to provide power to a load. The feedback circuit generates a first gain signal and a second gain signal according to an output voltage sensing signal coupled with the load. The feedback circuit further generates a feedback signal according to the first gain signal and the second gain signal. The pulse width modulation signal generating circuit configures the operation of the power stage circuit according to the feedback signal and a reference signal. Moreover, the feedback circuit and the pulse width modulation signal generating circuit are configured on the same integrated circuit package.

A control circuit and method for a PWM voltage regulator combine a high frequency feedback technique with a constant on-time or constant off-time topology to improve the transient performance of the PWM voltage regulator. The PWM voltage regulator generates a constant on-time or constant off-time depending on a current for generating a PWM signal, and dynamically adjusts the current according to the droop-voltage at its output during a transient period. Therefore, the PWM voltage regulator boosts its transient response without any threshold for load step detection.

Control circuit and method for providing a signal for a PWM voltage regulator to convert an input voltage into an output voltage

The present invention provides a multi-phase switching regulator and a droop circuit for use in the multi-phase switching regulator. The multi-phase switching regulator generates pulse width modulation (PWM) signals according to an output voltage and a droop signal, to drive a plurality of switching sets to convert an input voltage to the output voltage. The droop circuit detects the sum of the currents generated by the plurality of switching sets and provides the droop signal which is related to the sum of the currents to the multi-phase switching regulator. The droop signal can be used for over current protection (OCP) or for the droop control.

In a PWM signal generation method of a voltage regulator, an output sense signal, a first ramp signal and a second ramp signal are provided. A first time point of the first ramp signal crossing with the output sense signal is used to determine a start point of an ON-time of a PWM signal, and a second time point of the second ramp signal crossing with the output sense signal is used to determine an end point of the ON-time of the PWM signal. Moreover, the first ramp signal is reset to a reference voltage at the first time point and then maintained at the reference voltage, and further ramps down starting from the end point of the ON-time. The second ramp signal ramps up starting from the start point of the ON-time, and then is reset to a preset voltage at the second time point.

An exemplary method for improving voltage identification (VID) transient response is adapted to a voltage regulator and includes steps of: continuously sensing an inductor current of the voltage regulator to thereby output a current sense signal; during a steady state operation period, sampling the current sense signal to thereby obtain a sampling result for providing a droop control signal; after entering a VID transient period from the steady state operation period, holding the sampling result for providing the droop control signal; and taking the droop control signal as a consideration factor of producing a pulse width modulation signal to regulate an output voltage of the voltage regulator.

A multi-phase power converter with constant on-time control includes a plurality of channels to convert an input voltage into an output voltage, and each of the channels is driven by a control signal. When all channel currents of the channels are balanced, each of the control signals remains a constant on-time. When the channel currents are imbalanced, the on-times of the control signals are modulated according to the difference between each channel current and a target value for current balance between the channels.
