An apparatus includes a primary transformer circuit including a plurality of primary coils. The apparatus further includes a delta secondary transformer circuit configured to magnetically couple to the primary transformer circuit. The delta secondary transformer circuit includes a first plurality of secondary coils, a first plurality of nodes coupled to the first plurality of secondary coils, and a second plurality of secondary coils configured to magnetically couple to the plurality of primary coils. Each coil of the second plurality of secondary coils is physically coupled to a respective node of the first plurality of nodes.

Transformer and method of generating multiple multiphase output signals

An electric power system is provided that includes a three-phase to ten-phase step-up transformer. The transformer includes primary winding groupings, secondary windings, and third windings. The primary winding groupings include sub windings. Primary winding groupings are coupled to form a delta configuration and coupled to secondary windings and third windings, which may also be coupled to each other. The outputs at second ends of secondary windings and third windings are greater than the outputs at the second ends of primary windings. Diode pairs are connected to each other, each diode pair having an inner connection connected to one of the outputs of the transformer and first and second ends respectively connected to a positive dc bus and a negative dc bus. An inverter is connected to the d busses. The diode pairs operatively rectify the transformer output voltage to form a DC voltage with a reduced common mode voltage.

Power system architecture with reduced common mode voltage

An apparatus includes a plurality of input nodes configured to receive a multiphase alternating current (AC) input signal. The apparatus further includes a plurality of inductors, a neutral terminal, a first plurality of output nodes, and a second plurality of output nodes. The plurality of inductors is coupled to the plurality of input nodes, and the neutral terminal is coupled to the plurality of inductors. The first plurality of output nodes is coupled to the plurality of inductors and is configured to output a first multiphase AC output signal. The second plurality of output nodes is coupled to the plurality of inductors and is configured to output a second multiphase AC output signal.

An aircraft includes an engine and a first variable frequency generator having a first rotor that is rotatable at a rate that is based on a rotational rate of the engine to cause the first variable frequency generator to generate a first multiphase signal. The aircraft further includes a second variable frequency generator having a second rotor that is rotatable at the rate to cause the second variable frequency generator to generate a second multiphase signal. The first multiphase signal is phase aligned with the second multiphase signal. The aircraft further includes one or more switches coupled to a first electrical system and configured to selectively provide power to the first electrical system based on either the first multiphase signal or the second multiphase signal.

Non-break power transfer for variable frequency generators

An auto transformer rectifier unit (ATRU) is provided. The ATRU comprises a transformer configured to receive a three-phase alternating current input and produce a ten-phase alternating current output, and a rectifier configured to receive the ten-phase alternating current output and output a bipolar direct current.

Ten-phase auto transformer rectifier unit

An electric power system is provided that includes a three-phase to two twelve-phase transformer. The transformer includes first and second primary winding groupings, secondary winding groupings, and third, fourth, and fifth windings. The groupings can include sub windings. First primary winding groupings are coupled to form a wye configuration and coupled to second primary winding groupings and the windings. The first of the two twelve-phase outputs at the same voltage as the input voltage while the second twelve-phase output is at a lower voltage. Diode pairs are connected to each other, each diode pair having an inner connection connected to one of the outputs of the transformer and first and second ends respectively connected to a positive dc bus and a negative dc bus. The diode pairs operatively rectify the transformer output voltage to form a DC voltage with a reduced common mode voltage.

Autotransformer rectifier unit with multiple alternating current level outputs

A multi-phase transformer. The multi-phase transformer includes a single rectifier; and a plurality of groups of windings connected to the single rectifier. Each one of the plurality of groups of windings comprises: a corresponding plurality of primary windings having a first output voltage; a corresponding plurality of secondary windings having a second output voltage; and a corresponding plurality of tertiary windings having a third output voltage that is higher than the second output voltage.

Step-up bipolar transformer rectifier without common mode ripple

A multi-phase autotransformer () is disclosed. The exemplary transformer includes primary windings PWA, PWB, PWC) and secondary windings (SWA-SWA, SWB-SWB, SWC-SWC). The primary windings are connected in a delta configuration and to a three-phase input voltage source. Each secondary winding is electrically connected to a primary winding but is magnetically coupled to a different primary winding. Three sets of secondary windings provide three three-phase outputs (A,B,C), each of which has a voltage which is less than the three-phase input voltage, the three-phase output of each set being phase-shifted with respect to the other sets. These three sets also, collectively, provide a multi-phase output (). Another set of secondary windings, in conjunction with the input voltage, provides another multi-phase phase output () which has approximately the same voltage as the three-phase input voltage.

Symmetrical step-up and step-down autotransformer delta topology

A transformer comprising a core and a plurality of conductor lines. Each conductor line in the plurality of conductor lines comprises at least three windings wound around the core such that a phase voltage at an output connection point associated with a corresponding conductor line of the plurality of conductor lines is substantially a selected percentage of a line voltage for the corresponding conductor line and such that harmonic currents are reduced to within selected tolerances.

Multi-phase autotransformer

A method and apparatus for transferring power to a load. An AC-to-DC converter output for an AC-to-DC converter is connected to a filter circuit input in a DC-to-DC converter via a connector such that a no-break power transfer occurs when transferring between providing power for the load by the AC-to-DC converter and providing power for the load by the DC-to-DC converter. The topology of the AC-to-DC converter needs only 21 windings for achieving a 24-pulse transformer rectifier unit.

No-break power transfer

A method and apparatus for forming a direct current power supply. An apparatus comprises a transformer and a rectifier. The transformer is figured to output a plurality of phase-shifted alternating currents in response to receiving a plurality of alternating currents. The plurality of alternating currents and the plurality of phase-shifted alternating currents form a plurality of input alternating currents that are offset relative to each other by one-twelfth of a cycle in phase. The rectifier is configured to form a direct current power supply having a common mode voltage reduced to zero within selected tolerances in response to receiving the plurality of input alternating currents.

Six-phase supplied transformer rectifier unit

According to an embodiment, a transformer is provided that includes a first conductive coil wound about a first coil axis and a second conductive coil wound about a second coil axis. The second conductive coil is disposed proximate to the first conductive coil and the second coil axis is substantially parallel to the first coil axis. A closed-loop conductive winding is disposed proximate to the first conductive coil and the second conductive coil. The closed-loop conductive winding is wound about a loop axis at least one time where the loop axis is substantially parallel to the first coil axis and the second coil axis.
