This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for reducing PAPR in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to single-carrier frequency-division multiplexing (SC-FDM) techniques that can be used for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). In some aspects, a wireless communication device may modulate a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) as a series of symbols in the time domain and may transform a subset of the time-domain symbols into a number (Q) of frequency-domain samples based on a Q-point discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The wireless communication device maps the Q frequency-domain samples to a number (N) of orthogonal subcarriers (representing an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol), where N>Q, and transforms the N subcarriers into N time-domain samples, based on an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), for transmission over a wireless channel.

Single-carrier frequency-division multiplexing (SC-FDM) for wireless local area networks (WLANs)

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating enhanced trigger frames. Some implementations more specifically relate to trigger frame designs that support gains in data throughput achievable in accordance with the IEEE 802.11be amendment, and future generations, of the IEEE 802.11 standard. In some implementations, an enhanced trigger frame may be used to solicit a non-legacy trigger-based (TB) physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) from one or more wireless stations (STAs). In some implementations, the enhanced trigger frame may be configurable to support multiple versions of the IEEE 802.11 standard. For example, an enhanced trigger frame may be configured in accordance with a legacy trigger frame format or a non-legacy trigger frame format. Thus, when configured in accordance with the legacy trigger frame format, the enhanced trigger frame can also be used to a legacy TB PPDU from one or more STAs.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing carrier frequencies for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may map a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) to orthogonal subcarriers according to existing tone plans associated with carrier frequencies below 7 GHz and may up-clock the PPDU for transmission on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz (such as by increasing the frequency of a clock signal used to convert the PPDU between the frequency domain and the time domain). In some implementations, the PPDU may conform to an existing PPDU format designed for sub-7 GHz wireless communications. In some other implementations, the PPDU may conform to a 'green field' PPDU format optimized for wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communications over a 320 MHz bandwidth. Some implementations more specifically relate to signaling techniques for indicating the bandwidth of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) transmitted in a secondary 160 MHz channel of the 320 MHz bandwidth. In some implementations, an access point (AP) may transmit an aggregated PPDU (A-PPDU) that includes a first sub-PPDU transmitted within a primary 160 MHz channel and a second sub-PPDU transmitted within a secondary 160 MHz channel. In such implementations, the first sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the bandwidth of the first sub-PPDU within the primary 160 MHz channel and the second sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the 320 MHz bandwidth.

This disclosure provides systems, devices, apparatus, and methods, including computer programs encoded on storage media, for techniques for reducing feedback information in an extremely high throughput (EHT) wireless local area network (WLAN). A receiving device (beamformee), such as a station (STA), may receive a sounding signal from a transmitting device (beamformer), such as an access point (AP), and transmit channel feedback. The receiving device may transmit the channel feedback as part of a reduced compressed beamforming feedback (CBF) operation that includes determining a first set of channel characteristics. The receiving device may select a subset of the first set of channel characteristics and determine a set of differential characteristics based on the subset. The transmitting device may then transmit the sets of characteristics as reduced CBF to the transmitting device. The transmitting device may determine a channel estimation for beamformed signaling based on the reduced CBF.

Techniques for reducing feedback information

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for data retransmissions in a wireless network. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may transmit a first data unit to a receiving device, may receive a first hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback frame indicating that a portion of the first data unit was not successfully decoded by the receiving device, may retransmit the indicated portion of the first data unit to the receiving device in response to the first HARQ feedback frame, and may transmit a second data unit, different than the first data unit, to the receiving device concurrently with the retransmission of the indicated portion of the first data unit.

HARQ sequences in wireless networks

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for interpreting reserved bits and values associated with different releases of a wireless communication protocol. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) if it detects a reserved bit in the physical layer preamble set to an unsupported value (such as a value different than what is defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device). In some other implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a PPDU if it detects a field in the physical layer preamble set to a reserved value (such as defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device).

Interpretation of reserved states in wireless packets

Various aspects relate generally to the generation and wireless transmission of a long training field (LTF) and a data field within a 320 MHz or 240 MHz bandwidth channel. The LTF includes an LTF sequence based on a concatenation of a plurality of LTF subsequences, each LTF subsequence being associated with a channel bandwidth less than the total bandwidth of the channel, each of the plurality of LTF subsequences being selectively phase-rotated to reduce a peak-to-average power ratio. Each of the plurality of LTF subsequences may be associated with an LTF designed for an 80 MHz bandwidth channel. The LTF and the data field may then be transmitted in a wireless packet to at least one second wireless communication device via the 320 MHz or 240 MHz bandwidth channel.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for encoding data for wireless communication to achieve a desired amplitude distribution. Some implementations more specifically relate to performing an encoding operation to shape the amplitudes of the resultant symbols such that the amplitudes have a non-uniform distribution. In some implementations of the non-uniform distribution, the probabilities associated with the respective amplitudes generally increase with decreasing amplitude. Some implementations enable the tracking of MPDU boundaries to facilitate successful decoding by a receiving device. Additionally or alternatively, some implementations enable the determination of a packet length after performing the amplitude shaping, which enables a transmitting device to determine the number of padding bits to add to the payload and to signal the packet length to a receiving device so that the receiving device may determine the duration of the packet.

Probabilistic amplitude shaping

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for a link adaptation protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN). In one aspect, the link adaptation protocol may be used to select a transmission rate option (such as a modulation and coding scheme (MCS)) for communications from a first WLAN device to a second WLAN device based on wireless channel conditions. This disclosure includes several example message sequences for the link adaptation protocol which can accommodate a variety of uplink or downlink data transmission designs, including single user (SU) and multi-user (MU) transmissions. The example message sequences may be used with orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO), and beamformed transmissions.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing the transmit power of wireless communication devices operating on power spectral density (PSD)-limited wireless channels. Some implementations more specifically relate to tone mapping techniques and packet designs that support duplicate (or 'DUP mode') transmissions to multiple users. In some implementations, an access point (AP) may transmit a PPDU that includes first user data and second user data, where at least the first user data is transmitted in a DUP mode. As such, the first user data may be mapped to a number (N) of tones spanning a first RU in accordance with a dual carrier modulation (DCM) scheme, and a duplicate copy of the first user data may be mapped to N tones spanning a second RU in accordance with the DCM scheme. In some implementations, the second user data also may be transmitted in a DUP mode.

Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs and numerologies that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may up-clock a physical layer (PHY) convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) for transmission on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz, where the PPDU conforms to an existing PPDU format associated with carrier frequencies below 7 GHz. As used herein, the term 'up-clocking' refers to increasing the frequency of a clock signal used to convert the PPDU between the frequency domain and the time domain. In some aspects, the up-clocking may result in a subcarrier spacing (SCS) greater than or equal to 1.2 MHz, where the SCS represents a spacing between the subcarriers on which a PHY preamble of the PPDU is modulated.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating enhanced sounding packets. Some implementations more specifically relate to sounding packet designs that support enhancements to wireless communication protocols associated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11be amendment, and future generations, of the IEEE 802.11 standard. In some implementations, an enhanced null data packet announcement (NDPA) frame may be configurable to support multiple versions of the IEEE 802.11 standard. For example, the enhanced NDPA frame may be configured in accordance with a legacy or a non-legacy NDPA frame format. In some other implementations, the enhanced NDPA frame may include a subfield carrying information identifying a particular basic service set (BSS) which may be associated with one or more STA information fields. Still further, in some implementations, an Extremely High Throughput (EHT) PPDU may include signaling to indicate whether the EHT PPDU is formatted as a sounding NDP.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, methods, devices and systems for including signaling regarding enhanced features of new wireless communication protocols. The signaling may be included in various portions of a physical layer preamble of a wireless transmission. In some implementations, the physical layer preamble may be used to indicate puncturing of subbands or content channels that may carry further signaling in accordance with preamble signaling designs of this disclosure. The physical layer preamble signaling be parallelized for different subchannels of a wireless channel that consists of multiple subchannels. Some implementations of the physical layer preambles may be used to multiplex different types of wireless local area network communications into different subsets of the plurality of subchannels of the wireless channel.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, for generating or receiving a multi-generation physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU). The multi-generation PPDU may concurrently include a first generation-specific preamble based on a first generation of a wireless communication specification (such as that defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 family of standards) and a second generation-specific preamble based on a second generation of the wireless communication specification in a same transmission. The generation-specific preambles may be generated based on bandwidth portions of a wireless channel that each generation-specific preamble will occupy in the multi-generation PPDU. One or more of the generation-specific preambles may be modified based on an aggregate bandwidth of the multi-generation PPDU.
