Techniques for displaying navigation information on a mobile device are provided that include a method that includes obtaining an indication of a position and an indication of a direction associated with the mobile device, using the indication of the position, the indication of the direction, information regarding identities of POIs within a geographic region of interest, and information regarding areas associated with the POIs to determine at least one relevant POI, of the POIs, that is associated with the position and direction, and displaying at least one visual indication associated with each of the at least one relevant POI on the mobile device. The appearance of the at least one visual indication is dependent on at least one of a distance from the mobile device of the relevant POI associated with the visual indication or presence of a known physical barrier between the mobile device and that relevant POI.

Methods and devices are described for optimizing display of information such as map data on a mobile device. Certain embodiments may include receiving, at a mobile device, a first and second set of placement data associated with a first and second object. The mobile device may then determine overlap between a representation of the first object and the second object in a rendering of an image comprising the representation of the first object and the second object, using a set of viewing parameters, the first set of placement data and the second set of placement data. The set of viewing parameters may be adjusted to reduce overlap between the representation of the first object and the second object in the rendering of the image. In additional embodiments, 3D enhancements to two-dimensional map objects may be added to enhance the presentation of the information.

Method and apparatus for optimized presentation of complex maps

Methods and devices are described for providing localized secure navigation in conjunction with near field communication access control systems. In one potential embodiment, a mobile device such as a cell phone may communicate with a door access control point using near field communication to receive location access system information. The mobile device may then authorize download and execution of a local secure navigation module from a location access system using the location access system information for use in receiving location assistance data, based on an authentication level associated with the mobile device. Such location assistance data may be used by the local secure navigation module to provide location assistance when the mobile device is in a secure location. The location of the mobile device may then be tracked using at least the location assistance data and the communication with the door access control point.

Method for securely delivering indoor positioning data and applications

Disclosed are devices, methods and storage media for use in determining position information for imaging devices or mobile devices. In some implementations, a landmark is identified in an image which is obtained from an imaging device which in turn is positioned at a location and in a pose. A virtual two-dimensional image that would be visible from the landmark is determined based, at least in part, on the pose. The location or position information is based, at least in part, on the virtual two-dimensional image.

In one particular embodiment, a mobile device may trace a path of movement from a starting point to a point of intersection with a routing graph that defines feasible movement within an area. A digital map having a routing path is created. Points in at least a majority of a linear length of the path may be constrained so that they are disposed substantially equidistant between structural features that are bounding navigable spaces in a structure. The creating of the path may include selecting a connected component corresponding to some or all of the navigable spaces. A morphological process may be performed on the connected component to create the path.

Techniques for providing improved navigation through an indoor environment using a mobile device are provided. A method according to these techniques includes accessing a 2D map of the indoor environment, accessing customization information comprising one or more attributes to be applied to a 3D model of the indoor environment derived from the 2D map, analyzing the 2D map to extract geometry information associated with the layout of the indoor environment, generating the 3D model based on the geometry extracted from the 2D map and the customization information, generating a 3D representation of a current location of the mobile device within the indoor environment based on the 3D model; and displaying the 3D representation on a display of the mobile device.

Methods, apparatus, and computer program products for classifying a mobile device location are described. An example of a method for classifying the mobile device location includes mapping the mobile device location to a pixel address in a dilated test texture, wherein the dilated test texture corresponds to an uncertainty estimation associated with the mobile device location and determining an in-out classification of the mobile device location based on a query of a pixel value associated with the pixel address in the dilated test texture.

At least one feature within the at least one image is analyzed and based on the analysis of the at least one feature, a direction of movement of the moving path is determined. In some embodiments, a method includes capturing an image of an inclined path. At least one feature within the image is analyzed and based on analysis of the at least one feature, a determination is made whether the image was captured from a top position relative to the inclined path or a bottom position relative to the inclined path.
