A network equipment communicates with customer premises equipment (CPE) through a primary path and a secondary path. The network equipment provides heartbeat packets for the CPE to obtain response times corresponding to the primary and secondary paths; then calculates time differences and capacity of the primary path or the secondary path; and at last switches a path to another path according to the time differences and the capacity of the primary path or the secondary path.

Network equipment and method for selecting communication path

A network equipment is in communication with customer premises equipment (CPE) through a primary electrical path and a secondary electrical path, and includes a timer, a processor and a switching device. The timer provides heartbeat packets for the CPE via the primary electrical path and the secondary electrical path to obtain a first response time and a second response time corresponding to the primary and secondary electrical paths. The switching device is switched to the primary electrical path or the secondary path under the control of the processor. When the timer reaches a preset retransmission timeout, the processor controls the switching device to be switched to the secondary electrical path from the primary electrical path. When the second response time exceeds the first response time at least twice in succession, the processor enables the switching device to be selectively switched to the primary electrical path.

A method run in a gateway for detecting a communication link between a called telephone and a telephone switch is provided. The method firstly detects if a ringer equivalency number (REN) is equal to zero. If the REN equals to 0, the method further determines if each discharge curve of a positive wire and a negative wire of the called telephone complies with a corresponding standard discharge curve, so as to determine if the communication link between the called telephone and the telephone switch has been established.

A method for reducing noise is in a subscriber line interface circuit of a phone includes detecting a work state of the phone, and reading a voltage on hook on the tip wire when the phone is in the on hook state. Voltages of an off hook state on the tip wire and a voltage off hook state on the ring wire are read when the phone is in the off hook state, and calculation of a public voltage based on the voltages in the register, and loading the public voltage on the ring wire are done. The public voltage on the ring wire are converted into oscillatory voltages on the ring wire in symmetric wave forms having phases opposite to those on the tip wire, when the phone is in the pulse dialing state.
