A Liquid crystal display device and manufacturing method thereof are provided. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, an LCD device includes: a first substrate including a display area and a non-display area disposed outside of the display area; a gate electrode disposed on the first substrate and including a first-layer gate electrode and a second-layer gate electrode disposed on the first-layer gate electrode; a pixel electrode disposed on the same layer as the first-layer gate electrode; a source electrode and a drain electrode disposed on the gate electrode to be spaced from each other; and a contact connecting the drain electrode and the pixel electrode and including a first-layer contact, which is disposed on the same layer as the pixel electrode, and a second-layer contact, which is disposed on the first-layer contact.

Liquid crystal display device and manufacturing method thereof

A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display includes: forming a first passivation layer and an organic layer, forming an edge of an inclined portion of the organic layer by partially removing the organic layer at a location where a first drain contact hole that exposes a drain electrode of a thin film transistor is formed, forming a second passivation layer including a third drain contact hole exposing the drain electrode, a first electrode including a second drain contact hole exposing the drain electrode, and the first drain contact hole through an etching process using one etching mask, and forming a second electrode on the second passivation layer. The first drain contact hole, the second drain contact hole, and the third drain contact hole overlap with each other, and a size of the second drain contact hole is greater than a size of the third drain contact hole.

According to exemplary embodiments of the invention, a liquid crystal display is provided which includes a plurality of spacers having different heights or a different distance or different pressure tolerance from a corresponding display panel and disposed in at least two pixel areas displaying different colors. As compared with conventional techniques (e.g., disposing the spacers only in one pixel area), the disposition density of the spacer per pixel area is lowered, such that it is possible to prevent the pressure tolerance of the spacer from intensively acting only on a specific pixel. The pressure tolerance of the spacer is uniformly maintained for every pixel, so that insufficiency of the amount of dropping liquid crystal is avoided. As a result, it is possible to prevent the light leakage caused by the insufficient liquid crystal.

A thin film transistor array panel includes: a substrate; a gate line and a storage electrode that are disposed on the substrate; a data line that crosses the gate line and storage electrode line; a thin film transistor that is connected with the gate line and data line; and a pixel electrode that is connected to the thin film transistor. The storage electrode includes a first storage electrode that is parallel to the gate line, second storage electrodes that extend on opposing sides of the data line from the first storage electrode, a connection part that crosses the data line and connects pairs of the second storage electrodes, and a connection bridge that crosses the gate line and connects a second storage electrode to a second storage electrode of an adjacent pixel.

The thin film transistor array panel includes: a first substrate; a gate line and a data line formed on the first substrate; a step preventing member formed on the data line to at least partially fill a volume positioned between the data line and a pixel electrode; and a spacer formed on the first substrate, wherein the spacer and the step preventing member comprise the same material.
