A display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. The display device includes a first substrate; a first color filter, a second color filter, and a third color filter that are on the first substrate; a plurality of roof layers that cover spaces that overlap the first color filter, the second color filter, and the third color filter, respectively; a first color conversion layer that is positioned in a space overlapping the first color filter; a second color conversion layer that is positioned in a space overlapping the second color filter; a transmissive layer that is positioned in a space overlapping the third color filter; and a capping layer that is positioned on the plurality of roof layers.

A display device includes: a first substrate including a display area to emit a light having a peak wavelength from light emitting areas and a non-display area surrounding the display area; and a second substrate including transparent areas overlapping the light emitting areas and to convert the peak wavelength of the light or to transmit the light through the transparent areas. A method of manufacturing an electrowetting display device includes forming a protection layer on a pixel electrode, forming a water-repellent layer on the protection layer, and removing the water-repellent layer from regions surrounding a display area of the pixel electrode. The water-repellent layer is formed by coating the protection layer with a hydrophilic material using a method such as slit coating. The water-repellent layer is removed using a method such as an edge bead removal method. The resulting water-repellent layer has a uniform thickness.

The roof layer is disposed to face the pixel electrode, wherein a plurality of microcavities having injection holes are formed between the pixel electrode and the roof layer. The microcavities comprise liquid crystal molecules, and the first protection layer and the second protection layer have different etch rates.

A display device includes a substrate, a thin film transistor disposed on the substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, a common electrode disposed opposite to the pixel electrode and spaced apart from the pixel electrode, where a microcavity is defined between the common electrode and the pixel electrode, and a cutout is defined in the common electrode, an insulating layer disposed on the common electrode, a roof layer disposed on the insulating layer, where a liquid crystal injection hole is defined through the common electrode and the roof layer such that the common electrode and the roof layer expose a portion of the microcavity, a liquid crystal layer disposed in the microcavity, and an encapsulation layer disposed on the roof layer, where the encapsulation layer covers the liquid crystal injection hole, and seals the microcavity.
