A method including percutaneously positioning a delivery device in a blood vessel; locally introducing a treatment agent from the delivery device into the blood vessel upstream of an infarcted area or distressed area; and following introducing the treatment agent, occluding the blood vessel for a dwell time sufficient to allow the treatment agent to flow into targeted capillaries in or adjacent to the infarcted area. Embodiments include an infusion-occlusion system having a delivery catheter, a guide catheter adapted to receive the delivery catheter, and a guidewire with an occlusion device adapted to be received within the guide catheter. The guide catheter of the catheter kit may be provided with an occlusion device at the distal end of the guide catheter. The delivery catheter may have an accessory lumen, coaxial or co-linear lumen, a supporting mandrel, or an occlusion device at its distal end. Moreover, according to some embodiments, occlusion devices may be a single material or a composite balloon having an inner liner and an outer layer of different materials, a high compliance low pressure balloon, or a filter device that restricts particles from passing through but does not restrict fluid, such as blood. An inflation device with a large volume and low volume syringe can be used to inflate the balloon.

Embodiments of a method and apparatus to prevent reperfusion injury. In one embodiment, blood flow proximal to a lesion is occluded. An infusion catheter is advanced to a region distal to the lesion and an anti-reperfusion injury drug is delivered. The lesion may then be treated with a dilating device to reintroduce blood flow to the region distal to the lesion.

Retrograde pressure regulated infusion

A deflectable catheter assembly is disclosed. The assembly comprises a catheter shaft having a catheter proximal section and a catheter distal section, and at least one lumen extending therethrough. The catheter distal section is more flexible than the catheter proximal section. A tendon is disposed within a first lumen of said catheter shaft. The first lumen is approximately centrally located within the catheter shaft at the catheter proximal section. The first lumen is located off-center of the catheter shaft at the catheter distal section. The tendon is able to deflect the catheter distal section when being pulled on. A catheter handle is coupled to the catheter shaft at the catheter proximal section, the catheter handle includes a control mechanism to control the tendon.

The present invention provides a square-wave laser seal pattern made by first directing a laser beam onto an shaft while the shaft is moving in a horizontal direction relative to a laser device so as to create a horizontal laser seal bond segment. Next, with the shaft rotating about a shaft longitudinal axis, the laser beam is directed onto the shaft so as to create a vertical laser seal bond segment. By alternately creating and coupling together a plurality of horizontal and vertical laser seal bond segments, a square-wave laser seal is formed around a circumference of the shaft. The shaft's movement in a horizontal direction relative to a laser beam may be either at a constant speed or a variable speed so as to control the amount of laser energy heat impacting the shaft material.

Method and apparatus to prevent reperfusion injury

A multi-lumen balloon for use in a fluted balloon centering catheter and method for providing the same. The multi-lumen balloon maintains a radiation source at the center of a cardiovascular artery, has improved blood perfusion capability, and has improved balloon refolding characteristics. The method of fabricating a multi-lumen balloon designed for a radiation centering catheter uses an improved extrusion process that allows the manufacture of the multi-lumen balloon sub-assembly to be done separately from the catheter shaft assembly.

A catheter having a radiopaque marker and a method of forming the radiopaque marker on the catheter component. One embodiment of the invention is directed to a method of making a radiopaque marker on a catheter component comprising depositing a first layer of radiopaque material onto at least a section of the catheter component, which in a presently preferred embodiment is deposited by thin film deposition, and electroplating a second layer of radiopaque material onto an outer surface of the first layer of radiopaque material. In one embodiment of the invention, a catheter component has a radiopaque marker comprising a first layer of radiopaque material, and a second layer of radiopaque material on the first layer having a thickness greater than the thickness of the first layer. In another embodiment of the invention, a first layer of radiopaque material comprises a blend of polymeric material and radiopaque material and a second layer of radiopaque material is electroplated onto the blended first layer. The radiopaque marker of the invention may be on a variety of catheter components including a catheter shaft or a balloon on a balloon catheter.
