An antenna system is provided. In one example implementation, the antenna system may include a modal antenna that is operable in a plurality of different modes, and each mode may be associated with a different radiation pattern. The antenna system may include a tuning circuit configured to operate the modal antenna in the plurality of different modes. A transmission line may be coupled to the tuning circuit. The antenna system may further include one or more control devices. The control devices may be configured to modulate a control signal onto a radio frequency (RF) signal to generate a modulated signal for communication over the transmission line to the tuning circuit. The control devices may be further configured to generate an acknowledgement (ACK) signal based at least in part on the control signal.

Method and system for controlling a modal antenna with acknowledgement

An antenna configured to operate at millimeter wave frequencies is provided. The antenna includes a substrate and a ground plane. The antenna includes one or more active patch antenna elements that collectively define four corners, wherein the active patch antenna element(s) are positioned on a first surface of the substrate. The antenna includes four parasitic patch elements coplanar to the active patch antenna element(s) and adjacent to each respective corner of the active patch antenna element(s). The antenna includes a switching circuit configured to dynamically couple, to the ground plane, the first parasitic patch element, the second parasitic patch element, the third parasitic patch element, and/or the fourth parasitic patch element.

Active steering for millimeter wave signaling

An antenna system may include an antenna operable in a selected frequency band of a plurality of frequency bands. In some examples, the antenna system may include an antenna circuit having an RF (radio frequency) communication path and one or more configurable elements in the RF communication path. The antenna system may include a transmission line coupled to the antenna circuit. The antenna system may include a control unit configured to modulate a control signal onto an RF signal to generate a transmit signal for communication over the transmission line to the antenna circuit. The antenna circuit may be configured to demodulate the control signal from the transmit signal. The antenna circuit may be operable to adjust the one or more configurable elements in the RF communication path based at least in part on the control signal to configure the RF communication path to operate in the selected frequency band.

Configurable multiband active GNSS antenna

An antenna system is provided. The antenna system includes a modal antenna disposed on a circuit board. The modal antenna includes a driven element and a parasitic element. The modal antenna is operable in a plurality of different modes. Each of the plurality of modes has a distinct radiation pattern. The antenna system further includes a radio frequency amplifier circuit disposed on the circuit board. The radio frequency amplifier circuit is coupled between the drive element of the modal antenna and a transmission line.

Radio frequency (RF) amplifier circuit for antenna systems having a modal antenna

An antenna system can include a ground plane and a driven element spaced apart from the ground plane. The antenna system can include a parasitic element disposed proximate to the driven element. The parasitic element can be coupled to the ground plane by a first coupling and a second coupling. The second coupling can be independent from the first coupling. For instance, the first coupling can include one or more tunable components. The second coupling can fix the parasitic element to the ground plane.
