A laminated sprocket assembly is provided formed of a plurality of layers that are connected together. Each of the layers is a stamped sheet metal layer having a plurality of spaced apart teeth located around a periphery thereof. The teeth in the plurality of connected layers are aligned. At least one of voids, channels, openings, or recesses are located in or between at least some of the layers for receiving and holding lubricating oil. This reduces noise and wear.

A belt tensioner for an accessory drive of an internal combustion engine having a lever arm rotatably assembled to a hydraulic strut assembly. The hydraulic strut assembly including a fixing eye for rotatably mounting to a mounting boss of an engine, the fixing eye having a cupped portion at a first end to seat onto the mounting boss and a travel limiter at a second end extending along an axis of the hydraulic strut to limit travel of the lever arm toward the fixing eye.

Belt tensioner mount

A chain and sprocket drive system that includes an inverted tooth chain assembly configured to mesh with a laminated sprocket assembly is provided. The inverted tooth chain assembly includes a plurality of rows of links. The laminated sprocket assembly includes a plurality of plates, each of the plates including a plurality of teeth that are aligned with adjacent teeth. Each tooth has an engaging flank and a disengaging flank. The engaging flank of the teeth on one of the plurality of plates has an enlarged profile in a radially outwardly extending direction in comparison to corresponding ones of the teeth of an adjacent one of the plates, such that a first contact position with a link of the chain assembly carried thereon is located radially outward from a second contact position of the link with the corresponding teeth of the adjacent one of the plurality of plates.

A universal multi-orientation bracket design for attaching solenoids to a housing of a hydraulically actuated variable valve system. The bracket having at least two sidewalls, an upper cross member, a cupped lower surface and at least one mounting flange. The cupped lower surface is shaped to insert a solenoid main body and gaps included in the side walls for a protruding solenoid connector.

A rocker arm assembly which has an anti-inversion part that prevents a support pin from inverting and, thus, ensuring proper orientation of the support pin, on which a rocker arm is rotatably mounted, is maintained. The anti-inversion part can be incorporated on the support pin, the inner sleeve or the outer sleeve and/or a combination of the support pin, the inner sleeve and/or the outer sleeve.

The rocker arm assembly has an anti-inversion part that prevents a support pin from inverting, ensuring proper orientation of the support pin, on which a rocker arm is rotatably mounted, is maintained. The anti-inversion part can be a washer, a plate, a plug, or a sleeve. The washer, which has a flat face and a curved face, is intended for use with a cylindrical support pin which matches the curved face of the washer. The plate can include various combinations of tabs, flanges, and/or protrusions that extend in different directions. The plug can resemble any desirable shape, and is removed prior to final assembly. The sleeve can be hollow and is removable.

A camshaft adjuster for a concentric camshaft of an internal combustion engine is provided. The adjuster includes a stator that is connected to the timing gear, and a rotor located within the stator and connected to the outer camshaft. The rotor includes a plurality of vanes that extend into spaces created between inwardly directed projections of the stator that slidingly engage the outer surface of the rotor to define first and second sets of chambers on each side of the vanes. Front and rear sidewalls are connected to the stator and form the front and rear walls of the chambers. An outer cover is connected to the stator via axially extending fasteners and is adapted to be connected to the inner camshaft. Radial loads acting on the timing gear are transmitted from the stator to the rotor and into the outer camshaft.

A camshaft adjuster for a concentric camshaft assembly of an internal combustion engine is provided. The adjuster includes a stator that is connected to the timing gear, a rotor located within the stator and connected to the outer camshaft. The rotor includes a plurality of vanes that extend into spaces created between inwardly directed projections of the stator to define first and second sets of chambers on each side of the vanes. Front and rear sidewalls are connected to the stator and form the front and rear walls of the chambers. An outer cover connects to the stator to the inner camshaft. Radial loads acting on the timing gear are transmitted from the stator to the rotor and into the outer camshaft.

The camshaft phaser is affixed to one end of a concentric camshaft. The phaser is a vane-type camshaft phaser where the stator and the sprocket are fixed to the outer camshaft and the trigger wheel and rotor are fixed to the inner camshaft. The torsion spring is mounted on an outer wall of the stator, between the stator and the trigger wheel. The phaser is a compact unit with a high degree of reliability.

A camshaft phaser assembly for a concentric camshaft that adjusts the relative rotational position of the inner camshaft relative to the outer camshaft and the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine is provided. The phaser has an inner rotor with radially outwardly extending vanes which is attached to the inner camshaft. The rotor is surrounded by a stator having radially inwardly directed projections which contact the outer surface of the rotor and form working spaces into which the vanes extend. The vanes divide the working spaces into first and second sets of pressure chambers which can be pressurized with a hydraulic medium in order to rotate the rotor in an advancing or retarding direction. Front and rear covers are attached to the stator and define the front and rear sides of the pressure chambers. The timing gear or timing belt pulley is connected to the stator. The rear cover includes a splined opening. The front end of the outer camshaft includes a splined connection complementary to the splined opening in order to provide a positive fit connection between the outer camshaft and the rear cover for direct transfer of the timing chain or belt loads into the outer camshaft.

A camshaft adjuster for a concentric camshaft assembly of an internal combustion engine is provided. The adjuster includes a stator that is connected to the timing gear, and a rotor located within the stator having a plurality of vanes that extend into spaces created between inwardly directed projections of the stator to define chambers on each side of the vanes. Front and rear sidewalls are connected to the stator and form the front and rear walls of the chambers. An outer cover connects to the stator to the inner camshaft via a drive adapter, and the rotor is connected to the outer camshaft. Radial loads acting on the timing gear are transmitted from the stator to the rotor and into the outer camshaft. The drive adapter includes an open cylindrical body having first and second ends. The first end includes a slot or recesses in which a timing feature of the cover engages. The second end has a keyed portion configured to matingly engage a corresponding portion of the inner camshaft.

Camshaft phaser and drive adapter for a concentric camshaft

A magneto-rheological fluid controlled camshaft phaser is provided having a stator with inwardly directed projections which define working spaces therebetween. The stator is adapted to be connected to the crankshaft via a timing gear and chain. A rotor is located radially inside the stator and is connected to the camshaft. Rotor lugs extend radially outwardly from the rotor into the working spaces, dividing them into first and second chambers on each side of the rotor lugs. A magneto-rheological fluid is located in the chambers, and the chambers on each side of each rotor lug are connected via a clearance space between the radially outer surface of the lugs and the inner surface of the stator located between the projections. The rotor is connected to the camshaft. An electromagnetic assembly is mounted adjacent to the stator and includes at least one electromagnet along with at least one ferrous focusing piece. In one embodiment, a plurality of the electromagnets are axially spaced apart from the working chambers holding the magneto-rheological fluid. In another embodiment the electromagnetic is formed by a coil which is radially spaced apart from the working chambers holding the magneto-rheological fluid. In each case, the magnetic field is passed from the electromagnet(s) and the ferrous focusing piece(s) into the phaser via a small air gap spacing between the electromagnet assembly and the moving camshaft phaser.

A dual independent phasing system (DIPS) phaser assembly for coaxial camshafts having two axially stacked, thin phasing subassemblies which are each conventional vane-cell type phaser assemblies is provided. These phasers are preassembled together as a unit to make one DIPS phaser assembly. The rotor of the rear phaser is attached to the outer camshaft of the coaxial cam, and the rotor of the front phaser is attached to the inner camshaft. The radial force from the timing chain or belt is transmitted to the outer camshaft via a chain ring or pulley connected to the stator of the rear phaser. In order to provide for ease of mounting, the DIPS phaser assembly (including the front and rear phasers) is attached to the outer camshaft via mounting bolts which are passed through openings in the rotor of the front phaser in order to attach the rear phaser rotor to the outer camshaft. A central mounting bolt is used to connect the front phaser rotor to the inner camshaft. A radially stacked DIPS phaser assembly is also provided which offers further reduced axial space requirements.
