System and methods for predicting time-dependent rock properties are provided. Seismic data for a subsurface formation is acquired over a plurality of time intervals. A value of at least one rock property of the subsurface formation is calculated for each of the plurality of time intervals, based on the corresponding seismic data acquired for that time interval. At least one of a trend or a spatio-temporal relationship in the seismic data is determined based on the value of the at least one rock property calculated for each time interval. A value of the at least one rock property is estimated for a future time interval, based on the determination. The estimated value of the at least one rock property is used to select a location for a wellbore to be drilled within the subsurface formation. The wellbore is then drilled at the selected location.

A fault indicator calculator, a method for determining a fault indicator, and a fault indicator calculating system are disclosed herein. One embodiment of a fault indicator calculator includes: 1) an interface configured to receive seismic data, and 2) a processor configured to scan a manifold-shaped operator through said seismic data at a range of dips and azimuths and calculate fault throws at various orientations of said dips and azimuths independent of determining other fault indicators.

Strata surfaces can be identified in well logs and correlated across the well logs taking into account manual corrections. For example, a computing device can receive well logs. The computing device can determine multiple stratum-surface correlations based on the well logs. Then, the computing device can receive user input indicating a correction to a particular stratum-surface correlation. Based on the correction to the particular stratum-surface correlation, the computing device can update some or all of the other stratum-surface correlations.

Correlating strata surfaces across well logs

Well logs can be automatically correlated using dynamic warping with descriptors. For example, a computing device can receive user input indicating a manual correlation between a first node in a first well-log and a second node in a second well-log. The computing device can use the manual correlation to automatically determine a combination of descriptors usable to correlate the first node to the second node. The computing device can then perform dynamic warping on other well logs using the combination of descriptors determined by using the first well log and the second well log. This may provide more accurate correlations between well logs.

Automated well-log correlation using descriptors

A system and method are provided for correlating well log data and seismic data corresponding to subterranean formations to generate a seismic well tie that preserves blocking schemes associated with the well log data and constraints corresponding to each block of samples. The seismic well tie may be generated by correlating samples of the well log data with the seismic data by shifting at least some of the samples and using the constraint on changes to the sample values to prevent the sample values of each of the one or more blocks of the samples from changing beyond the constraint. In some aspects, the constraints may relate to a constant velocity or a linearly changing velocity within various blocks of the well log data.

Seismic well ties using blocking schemes

A computer implemented method for detecting a channel system comprises importing channel data, wherein the channel data includes intensity measurements associated with locations in the channel system. The method further comprises calculating, by a processor, directional first derivative data of the intensity measurements; selecting a plurality of localized test wavelets; calculating, by the processor, a plurality of fit-measures, wherein the plurality of fit-measures indicate correlations between the directional first derivatives and the plurality of localized test wavelets; and determining a plurality of selected wavelets from the plurality of localized test wavelets based on the plurality of fit-measures, wherein the plurality of selected wavelets model the channel system.

Methods and systems for detection and characterization of channel systems

A horizon-picking solution for a geological volume of interest is determined. To determine the horizon-picking solution, a plurality of horizons through the geological volume of interest included in an initial horizon-picking solution are perturbed to more closely follow the local character of measured data related to the geological volume of interest. In particular, the horizons may be perturbed simultaneously by blending the initial solution with a secondary horizon-picking solution that automatically identifies a plurality of horizons through the geological volume of interest that follow the measured data related to the geological volume of interest.

A method of determining geological information related to a subsurface volume. In one embodiment, the method comprises obtaining a seismic information related to a subsurface volume; determining a horizon volume that automatically maps the seismic information into a flattened volume, wherein one axis of the flattened volume corresponds to chronostratigraphic time, and wherein horizons represented by the seismic information are automatically accounted for in the horizon volume, and are shifted by the horizon volume into the flattened volume to be substantially planar and substantially perpendicular to the axis of the flattened volume that corresponds to chronostratigraphic time; determining a derivative of the horizon volume with respect to chronostratigraphic time; and determining geological information related to the subsurface volume based on the derivative of the horizon volume with respect to chronostratigraphic time.

A method of determining a horizon volume. In one embodiment, the horizon volume is determined from obtained seismic information, and maps the obtained seismic information onto a flattened volume such that in the flattened volume, horizons represented in the obtained seismic information are shifted to be substantially coplanar with a surface defined by the horizon volume as an estimate of a single chronostratigraphic time such that the parameters of the flattened volume include (i) a two-dimensional position in a surface plane, and (ii) a metric related to chronostratigraphic time.
