This application is directed to controlling the illumination efficiency of a light emitting diode (LED) operation system, which includes an LED module and a current source. A power supply is configured to provide a configurable drive voltage. The LED module is coupled to the power supply interface and configured to be driven by the configurable drive voltage. The current source is (i) coupled to the power supply interface via the LED module and (ii) configured to stabilize a drive current of the LED module dynamically at a target drive current and hold an illumination efficiency of an LED operation system above a target efficiency level. In some embodiments, the current source includes a drive transistor coupled in series with the LED module. The current source is configured to hold the illumination efficiency of the LED operation system by controlling the drive transistor to operate in a linear region.

Controlling energy efficiency in LED drive circuits

A signal conditioning apparatus includes a timing extractor to received one or more stepper motor drive signal and convert each into a corresponding virtual quadrature trigger signal. A resolution scaler is coupled to an output of the timing extractor to scale the virtual quadrature trigger signals to adjust the transition frequency, thereby adjusting the resolution of an image captured by a camera receiving the trigger signals to be different than the print resolution created by the motor drive signals. A quadrature decoder is coupled to the output of the resolution scaler, wherein the quadrature decoder extracts timing and direction information from the virtual quadrature trigger signals received from the resolution scaler.

Apparatus and method to harvest quadrature encoder signals from generic stepper motor input signals

According to embodiments of the present invention, a barcode scanner platform is provided in which the gain of an analog signal representative of a barcode is controlled using a control loop. In embodiments, an MTF detector generates a value (e.g., DC) representative of a low frequency portion (wide or out of optical focus elements) of the analog signal and a second value (e.g., DC) representative of a high frequency portion (narrow elements or in optical focus elements) of the analog signal. The processor uses the first and the second values and a reference amplitude to determine a gain signal. The processor provides the gain signal to an AGC circuit that provides a linear response to the gain signal using matched JFETs. A noise filter can be enabled or disabled based on the first value, the second value, and/or the barcode scanner platform read rate.

The disclosure describes an apparatus and method for automatic gain control during scanning. The apparatus comprises an optical detector to receive an optical signal reflected from a symbol positioned within a scan window by an optical beam scanned from a leading edge of the scan window to a trailing edge of the scan window; and a processor coupled to the optical detector to adjust the gain of the optical detector during the beam scan. The process comprises receiving an optical signal using an optical detector, wherein the optical signal comprises optical energy reflected from a symbol positioned in a scan window as an optical beam scans from a leading edge of the scan window to a trailing edge of the scan window, and adjusting the gain of the optical detector during receipt of the optical signal. A calibration process is disclosed comprising calibrating the optical detector to obtain a plurality of gain corrections, each gain correction corresponding to a different position between a leading edge and a trailing edge of a scan window, and storing the plurality of gain corrections.
