Tire components comprising rubber compositions based upon cross-linkable elastomer composition, the cross-linkable elastomer compositions including, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr), a highly unsaturated diene elastomer, a reinforcing filler and a methylene acceptor of the form wherein R is selected from H, an alkyl moiety, a cycloalkyl moiety, an aryl moiety, an amine moiety or combinations thereof. The rubber compositions include a methylene donor in an amount that provides little or no change in the rigidity of the cured rubber composition. Since the methylene acceptor may be described as having antidegradant properties, then resulting rubber composition has improved resistance to degradation.

Rubber composition and method for low resin crosslinking

A tire component comprising a rubber composition having a highly unsaturated diene elastomer and a reinforcing filler with a methylene acceptor selected from 3-hydroxydiphenyl-amine, 4-hydroxydiphenyl-amine or combinations thereof. Such rubber compositions further include a methylene donor, wherein a ratio of the methylene acceptor to the methylene donor may be greater than 10:1 or in other embodiments greater than 10:1 but no more than 50:1 or between 15:1 and 30:1. A method for manufacturing a tire component includes mixing together components of a rubber composition into a non-productive mix, the components including a highly unsaturated diene elastomer, a reinforcing filler and a methylene acceptor selected from 3-hydroxydiphenyl-amine, 4-hydroxydiphenyl-amine or combinations thereof; and mixing a methylene donor and a vulcanizing agent into the non-productive mix to convert the non-productive mix to a productive mix.

Rubber composition with low resin crosslinking

A tire component comprising a rubber composition having a highly unsaturated diene elastomer and a reinforcing filler with a first methylene acceptor selected from 3-hydroxydiphenylamine, 4-hydroxydiphenylamine or combinations thereof; a second methylene acceptor selected from a Novolac resin, diphenylolmethane, diphenylolethane diphenylolpropane, diphenylolbutane, a naphthol, a cresol or combinations thereof and a methylene donor. A method for manufacturing a tire component includes mixing together components of a rubber composition into a non-productive mix, the components including a highly unsaturated diene elastomer, a reinforcing filler, a first methylene acceptor selected from 3-hydroxydiphenylamine, 4-hydroxydiphenylamine or combinations thereof and a second methylene acceptor selected from a Novolac resin, diphenylolmethane, diphenylolethane diphenylolpropane, diphenylolbutane, a naphthol, a cresol or combinations thereof; and mixing a methylene donor and a vulcanizing agent into the non-productive mix to convert the non-productive mix to a productive mix.

Rubber composition with multiple reinforcing resins

A heavy vehicle tire tread constituted from a material based upon a rubber composition, the composition comprising, per 100 parts by weight of elastomer, between 35 and 60 phr of a solution polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber having a styrene content of between 10 wt. % and 35 wt. % and between 35 and 60 phr of a polybutadiene. The composition may further include between 45 and 110 phr of silica and between (1.94&#xd7;10/n)(S) and (2.55&#xd7;10/n)(S) moles of a sulfur-containing organosilicon compound as a silane coupling agent per 1 kg of the silica, wherein n is a number of silicon atoms in a molecule of the silane coupling agent and S is a CTAB surface area in m/g of the silica. The rubber composition may be cured with a sulfur curing system comprising a sulfenamide accelerator and between 0.3 and 0.8 phr of free sulfur, wherein a ratio of the sulfenamide accelerator and the sulfur is between 2 and 7.

Tread for heavy vehicle tires

Heavy vehicle tire treads and/or undertread constituted at least in part from a rubber composition comprising between 80 and 100 phr of a natural rubber and between 0 and 20 phr of a synthetic polyisoprene rubber, a reinforcement filler comprising a) between 30 and 50 phr of a highly dispersible silica and b) a carbon black in an amount of between (0.75)C phr and (1.25)C phr as determined by the equation C=&#x2212;0.8Si+44.3, wherein Si is the amount of the highly dispersible silica, a silane coupling agent and a sulfur curing system comprising between 1.5 and 3 phr of free sulfur and between (0.9)A phr and (L 1)A phr of a sulfenamide accelerator, wherein A is determined by a formula that is a function of the sulfur quantity and the silica weight fraction of the total reinforcement filler.

Heavy vehicle treads/undertread

Elastomer compositions and products formed therefrom, the compositions including one or more elastomers and glass microfibers having an average fiber diameter of no more than about 5 &#x3bc;m and an average length of between about 5 and 200 &#x3bc;m, wherein the glass microfibers are directionally oriented within the elastomer composition. Alternatively, the average length of the glass microfibers may be between 5 and 100 &#x3bc;m or in other embodiments, between about 10 and 70 &#x3bc;m. The elastomer compositions may be used to form products that include a tire tread or a support member within the sidewall of a tire. The glass microfibers may be oriented in, inter alia, a substantially circumferential orientation, a tread thickness orientation or at a 45&#xb0; orientation in a plane formed between the tread thickness and circumferential orientations or in a sidewall thickness direction.

Elastomer composition having glass micro fibers

An elastomer composition includes an elastomer and a carbon black, wherein the carbon black is characterized as having a COAN of between about 90 and 150 ml/100 g, a BET of between 50 and 69 m/g and a distribution index DI that is greater than 1.15, wherein the DI is a ratio of dto d. In particular embodiments, the elastomer may be selected from one or more natural rubbers, one or more synthetic rubbers or combinations thereof. For example, the one or more synthetic rubbers may be selected from styrene butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, polyisoprene rubber, butyl rubber or combinations thereof. Products made from the elastomer composition include tires and other products, particularly tires that include a sidewall, a carcass, a carcass reinforcement, tread and/or an undertread comprising the elastomeric composition.
