Mobile stations initiate location determination sessions, such as at predetermined time intervals, with a wireless telecommunications network. The wireless telecommunications network obtains the locations of the mobile stations as a result of the location determination sessions, and the mobile station locations are stored in one or more location registers. The location information stored in the location register(s) may then be used by location-based applications. For example, an application may request that the wireless telecommunications network provide a specified service to the mobile stations that are located in a specified zone according to the mobile station locations stored in the location register(s).

Method and system for managing mobile station location information

A method and system for locating a mobile-subscriber terminal (MST) roaming in a serving network is provided. A location based service provider (LBSP) that is outside of the serving network receives from the serving system an MST-initiated request for providing location based services (LBSs) and an identifier of a first location system (LS) that is associated with the serving network. Responsive to the MST-initiated request, the LBSP sends to a second location system (LS) (i) a request for mobile positioning information (MPI) for the MST, and (ii) the identifier. Using the identifier, the LSaddresses and sends the request for MPI to the LS. Responsively, the LSsends to the LSthe MPI. The LSthen send the MPI to the LBSP, which in turn sends to the MST a reply to the MST-initiated request for LBSs.

Method and system for locating a mobile subscriber terminal when roaming

A method and system for processing communications based on altitude is provided. When a network receives a request to connect a communication to or from a mobile station, the network will determine the mobile station's current altitude. The network can make this determination by acquiring a GPS reading of the mobile station's current location, which can include an indication of altitude as well as latitude and longitude. Based at least in part on the altitude, the network can then decide whether to allow the requested communication to proceed. For instance, if the altitude is greater than a predetermined threshold level, then the network may preclude the communication. A network can also take into consideration other factors in addition to the altitude of a mobile station, such as the latitude and longitude coordinates of the mobile station, in deciding whether to allow a requested communication to proceed.

Method and entity for processing communications based on altitude

A method and system for providing location based services (LBSs) to a mobile-subscriber terminal (MST) roaming in a serving network is provided. A location based service provider (LBSP) that is outside of the serving network receives from the serving system an MST-initiated request for LBSs and an identifier of a first location system (LS1) that is associated with the serving network. Responsive to the MST-initiated request, the LBSP sends to a second location system (LS2) (i) a request for mobile positioning information (MPI) for the MST, and (ii) the identifier. Using the identifier, the LS2 addresses and sends the request for MPI to the LS1. Responsively, the LS1 populates a shared database with the MPI. The LS2 retrieves the MPI from the shared database and sends it to the LBSP. The LBSP sends to the MST a reply to the MST-initiated request for LBSs.

Method and system for sharing and/or centralizing mobile positioning information and geospatial data for roaming mobile subscriber terminals

A method and system for automatically providing to a network entity in a wireless network, a location of a mobile station where a call is dropped (i.e., a call-drop location). The mobile station or base station may determine that a call in which the mobile station was engaged has been dropped. In response to determining that a call has been dropped, the mobile station or base station may obtain the location of the mobile station. The call-drop location can be used to identify those areas of the wireless network needing improved radio coverage.

Method and system for facilitating determination of call-drop locations in a wireless network

A method and system for managing location polling intervals is provided. A location determining element will determine a mobile station's current location and will compare the current location to a designated location. Based on the comparison between the current location and the designated location, the location determining element will compute a next time to determine the mobile station's current location. This process will repeat until the mobile station is located at or within a range of the designated location. Once the mobile station is located at or within the range of the designated location, the location determining element will notify a content server, which will provide specific content to the mobile station.

Method and system for managing location polling intervals

A method and system for providing telecommunication services to a mobile-subscriber terminal roaming between private and public-wireless networks is disclosed. After roaming from the public-wireless network into the private-wireless network, for example, an entity in the private-wireless network executes an application that retrieves from a roaming-agreement database roaming-agreement information for operating the mobile-subscriber terminal in the private-wireless network. Using this information as an input, the application may determine one or more roaming rules for operating in the private-wireless network.

Roaming agreement application and database for carrying out roaming between private and public wireless networks

A method and system for location-based group conference initiation is provided. A server will receive a request from a user to initiate a media conference, and the server will then initiate a conference with members of a group who are located in a designated location. The request may indicate a group of users who are candidates to be invited to the conference, and the location at issue. Given the request, the server will determine which of the candidate users are currently located within the zone at issue. And the server will then invite each of those candidate users to participate in the conference.
