Baits useful for controlling lepidoptera populations is made with (a) a diet component for lepidoptera; (b) a toxicant; (c) a chemiluminescent, visual attractant and (d) an encapsulating agent that will allow moisture to permeate and form an external condensate of said diet and said toxicant. The diet, toxicant, and chemiluminescent visual attractant can be used in the same bait particle in a homogeneous or layered structure. Alternatively, the diet/toxicant may be used with a first encapsulating agent in a first bait particle with the chemiluminescent, visual attractant encapsulated in a second bait particle and distributed among the diet/toxicant bait particles.

Lepidoptera bait

Molten, water soluble polymer is used as a binder for agriculturally effective active ingredients in a water free encapsulation process. For finely divided solid active ingredients, a solvent for the binder can be used to increase the amount of bound active ingredient. For water insoluble active ingredients, the binder provides a method for rendering the active ingredient dispersable in water.

Encapsulation with water soluble polymer

Agriculturally effective active ingredients are encapsulated in a 'salt sensitive' polymeric binder. Normally, the binder is water soluble and would release the active ingredient when wetted. In the presence of a hardening salt to which the polymer is sensitive, the polymer becomes water insoluble for so long as it is in chemical contact with the hardening salt. This sensitivity is used to control the circumstances and timing of the release of the encapsulated active ingredient.
