Blends of (a) a vinyl chloride polymer having a relative viscosity as measured at a concentration of 1 gram per 100 grams of cyclohexanone at 25.degree. C. falling within the range of about 1.50 to about 1.85; (b) a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride in which the relative proportions of said compound and said anhydride fall within the range of about 91 to about 70 weight percent of said compound and about 9 to about 30 weight percent of said anhydride; and (c) a tin-containing stabilizer and an impact modifier for vinyl chloride polymers. These blends contain 60 to 40 weight percent of (a) and 40 to 60 weight percent of (b) and have an Izod impact strength (ASTM D 256, Method A) of at least 0.5 foot pound per inch; a heat deflection temperature (ASTM D 648) at 66 psi of at least 75.degree. C.; and a dynamic thermal stability of at least 10 minutes.

Thermoplastic PVC molding compositions

The impact strength of thermoplastic poly(ethylene terephthalate) molding compositions containing a reinforcing filler (preferably glass fiber), an epoxidized crystallization promoter (e.g., an epoxidized vegetable oil) and a nucleating agent (e.g., sodium stearate) is markedly improved by including in the composition a small amount of an organofunctional silane, i.e., a compound characterized by having a functional substituent at the end of a methylene chain bound to a silicon atom to which are also bonded a plurality of readily hydrolyzable groups. A few such compounds are gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane. The formulations may also contain a warp-reducing filler such as mica. Organofunctional silanes typically have application in thermoplastic polymers only as coupling agents, i.e., agents that act to bind the resin to a reinforcing filler so that improved tensile strength and tensile modulus are obtained. However, in the present compositions the organofunctional silanes appear to function in a new and different way--they serve as effective impact modifiers for the PET blends and in so doing, provide significantly improved Izod Impact results. Normally the tensile strength and tensile modulus are not materially changed by the addition of the organofunctional silanes.

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) blends

Improved injection moldability of polyethylene terephthalates is achieved by the addition of an epoxidized plasticizer and a nucleating agent cooperative with the epoxidized plasticizer to achieve the improved moldability even when the composition is injection molded using mold temperatures of at least as low as 93.degree. C.

Injection-moldable thermoplastic polyester composition

Thermoplastic molding compositions comprising, in intimate admixture, 10 to 90 weight percent of polyethylene terephthalate and from 90 to 10 percent of a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride. These compositions display desirable thermal properties, particularly elevated heat distortion temperatures.

Polyethylene terephthalate blends

A thermoplastic molding composition having high Izod Impact and heat deflection temperature is disclosed. This composition contains in intimate admixture: a vinyl chloride polymer; a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride; as a first impact modifier, chlorinated polyethylene resin; and as a second impact modifier either a MBS impact modifier, an ABS impact modifier, a MABS impact modifier or a mixture thereof. This copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride can be rubber modified.

A thermoplastic molding composition having good gloss and physical properties is disclosed. This composition contains in intimate admixture: a vinyl chloride polymer; a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride; a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer having a number average molecular weight within the range of from about 1000 to about 8000; and an alkyl diphenyl phosphite. The copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride can be rubber modified.

Thermoplastic PVC molding compositions containing a phosphite compound

Thermoplastic compositions comprising, in intimate admixture, polyethylene terephthalate, a rubber-free copolymer of or a rubber-modified graft copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride, a fibrous modifier, and a nucleating agent are disclosed. These compositions display desirable properties, particularly elevated heat deflection temperatures and good surface appearance. Also disclosed is a process for producing articles by injection molding the compositions at a hold pressure of about 5,000 to about 10,000 psi.

Thermoplastic compositions comprising, in intimate admixture, 10 to 90 weight percent of polyethylene terephthalate and from 90 to 10 percent of a rubber-modified copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic imide. These compositions display desirable thermal properties, particularly elevated heat deflection temperatures.

Flame retarded thermoplastic compositions which comprise in intimate admixture: (a) a polyethylene terephthalate, (b) a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclic anhydride, said copolymer being a rubber-modified graft copolymer or a rubber-free copolymer, (c) a bis-imide flame retardant having at least 8 halogen atoms in the molecule bonded to carbon atoms of aromatic ring systems, (d) optionally, an inorganic synergist for said flame retardant. The compositions preferably contain an impact modifier as well.

Flame retarded polyethylene terephthalate blends

A thermoplastic composition made up of an intimate admixture of (a) a vinyl chloride polymer, and (b) a thermoplastic copolymer of vinyl aromatic compound and an imide derivative of an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid. The preferred blends contain from 90 to 40 weight percent of (a) and 10 to 60 weight percent of (b).

Thermoplastic compositions of vinyl chloride polymers and imide

Thermoplastic compositions comprising, in intimate admixture, 10 to 90 weight percent of polyethylene terephthalate and from 90 to 10 percent of a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic imide. These compositions display desirable thermal properties, particularly elevated heat deflection temperatures.

Improved injection moldability of polyethylene terephthalates is achieved by the addition of small amounts of at least one monoepoxyalkane. The injection moldability is further improved by the further addition of small amounts of an adjuvant synergistically cooperative with the monoepoxyalkane. The improved moldability and mold releasability is achieved even when the composition is injection molded at mold temperatures of at least as low as 93.degree. C.

Polyester composition

Thermoplastic compositions comprising, in intimate admixture, polyethylene terephthalate and a rubber-modified graft copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride. These compositions display desirable thermal properties, particularly elevated heat deflection temperatures.
