A hanger for mounting a cable to a support structure includes a flexible resilient unitary metallic strip. The strip has a medial portion shaped in a generally circular configuration about a longitudinal axis to form a cable holding section defining a longitudinally extending passageway for receiving and at least partially surrounding the cable. The strip has attachment legs extending from opposite ends of the medial portion in opposing spaced apart relation to one another generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The attachment legs are configured for being inserted into an installation opening. The cable holding section includes a first circumferentially extending slot extending at least partially around the circumferential extent of the passageway, and a pair of second circumferentially extending slots formed in the cable holding section on opposite sides of the first slot. The first slot and the pair of second slots define in the cable holding section along opposite sides of the first slot a pair of torsion springs extending at least partially around the passageway and capable of torsional deflection, a pair of bands adjacent the second slots, and at least one cantilevered gripping tab projecting from each torsion spring laterally into the adjoining second slot and oriented for grippingly engaging the surface of a cable placed in the passageway. The bands extend circumferentially at least partially around the passageway. A gripping protrusion is formed in each gripping tab and faces inwardly toward the passageway for gripping the surface of a cable placed in the passageway.

Cable hanger

Plug and jack connector assemblies (,) having internal shields (,) separating pairs of connections, and grounding arrangements insuring continuity of ground between the mated assemblies. Within each assembly an interior shield comprises a unitary conductive member having a cross-shaped cross section dividing the interior of the assembly into quadrants. The assemblies are adapted to make eight separate connections, divided into pairs, for use with cabling made up of four twisted pairs (,). Each set of two connections is disposed within one of the quadrants defined by the interior shield, so that it is isolated from all the other connection pairs. The plug connector assembly includes a grounding bracket (,) securely attached to the outer shield (,) of its associated cable (,). The grounding bracket securely engages the conductive housing (,) of the mating jack connector assembly, which in turn is in contact with the outer shield (,) of its associated cable (,). In an alternate embodiment, the jack connector assembly is modified for use as a right angled circuit board mounted jack.

Grounding bracket for a shielded cable connector

A modular plug electrical connector includes a housing and a circuit board having an array of circuit holes. Terminals in the housing have legs that extend into the circuit holes for electrical connection with the circuit board and mechanical retention of the circuit board to the housing. The circuit board carries contacts for terminating wires in a communications system. A stuffer cap has wire channels that receive the wires, and the stuffer cap is pivotable to urge the wires into engagement with the contacts. The wire channels are arranged in siamesed pairs that each receive a twisted wire pair.

Plug and jack connector assemblies (20, 24) having internal shields (34, 108) separating pairs of connections, and grounding arrangements insuring continuity of ground between the mated assemblies. Within each assembly an interior shield comprises a unitary conductive member having a cross-shaped cross section dividing the interior of the assembly into quadrants. The assemblies are adapted to make eight separate connections, divided into pairs, for use with cabling made up of four twisted pairs (44). Each set of two connections is disposed within one of the quadrants defined by the interior shield, so that it is isolated from all the other connection pairs. The plug connector assembly includes a grounding bracket (32) securely attached to the outer shield (42) of its associated cable (22). The grounding bracket securely engages the conductive housing (102) of the mating jack connector assembly, which in turn is in contact with the outer shield (114) of its associated cable (26). In an alternate embodiment, the jack connector assembly is modified for use as a right angled circuit board mounted jack.

Grounding arrangement for a shielded cable connector

Electrical connector 10 is used to terminate individual wires 6, 8 in two twisted wire pairs 2, 4. The connector includes an insulated housing with terminals 50 located in terminal receiving cavities 34 in the housing. The terminals 50 are inclined relative to parallel wire receiving channels 34 and paired terminals 50 for terminating individual wires of a the same twisted wire pair, 2 or 4 are spaced closer together than adjacent intermediate terminals associated with different wire pairs. Pairing inclined terminals 50 increases the coupling between wires in the same wire pair and increasing the spacing between terminals of different wire pairs reduces the capacitive cross talk between adjacent wire pairs. High frequency performance of the electrical connector 10 is thereby increased. A central cavity between terminal pairs increases the effective dielectric constant to further reduce crosstalk. Inclining the terminals 50 also allows the relative width of the terminals to be increased so that the strength of the housing 12 can be increased and the retention of the terminals 50 in the housing 12 can be improved.

Insulation displacing contacts (106) for engaging each twisted pair are housed in longitudinally offset cavities (190, 192) and are in opposed facing relation to each other so that each contact only conductively engages a respective one of the two twisted pair wires.

Contact and connector for terminating a pair of individually insulated

A shield for an electrical connector for being mounted in a panel cutout (62), wherein spring fingers (46,102,202,302) of the shield are engaged with surfaces defining the panel cutout (62) and are deflected thereby toward sides of the connector. Free ends (48,104,204,304) of the spring fingers are so formed that upon spring arm deflection the free ends enter into electrical engagement with other portions (54,108,210,310) of the shield to enhance the shielding effectiveness.

Shield member for panel mount connector

This invention is directed to a method and to a preferred fixture, for aligning and bonding a plurality of discrete insulation jacketed conductors to facilitate handling and insertion of the conductors into an electrical connector housing to be electrically terminated therein. The method comprises the steps of selecting plural discrete insulation jacketed conductors arranged in at least two different planes, arranging and aligning the ends of plural conductors in side-by-side fashion in a common plane on a fixture, and bonding the insulation jackets of adjacent wire ends to form a unitary ribbon type cable for ease of handling and termination. A preferred bonding procedure is by the application of localized heat to the wire ends to effect a melting and bonding of the insulation jackets.

This disclosure relates to a high performance electrical connector, such as a modular plug, for example, used in high frequency data transmission systems, where such connector is intended to be mated to a receptacle type connector. The modular plug comprises a dielectric housing having a conductor receiving end, a conductor terminating end, a passageway communicating internally between the respective ends, and a spacing or insert in the passageway to receive and/or separate a plurality of conductors and to position them in a manner to improve the crosstalk performance of the modular plug. A preferred insert is characterized by having an upper surface and a lower surface to space or separate selected pairs of the conductors. Within the limits of the housing, the insert or spacing maximizes the separation of the selected pairs and arranges them in plural planes before being realigned into a common plane for termination at the conductor terminating end. Several alternative embodiments for the insert are disclosed, ranging from solid bodies to spacing members which may be removable.

Divergent load bar

An assembly for use in connecting data communications equipment to a data communications network includes a network wiring connector 2, mating modular network connector receptacle inserts 4, a cover 6 and a mounting frame 10. The mounting frame 10 is a one piece member, preferably stamped and formed from a flat metal blank. The mounting frame 10 has a flat rear panel 12 with slots 14 in which the wiring connector 2 is mounted. The insert 4 is an edge card member with a connector interface or receptacle 62 which is aligned with openings 72 in the cover to provide an accessible mating interface for a plug attached to the data communications equipment. Side supports 22 on the mounting frame 10 extend forward to support the front end of the insert 4 and provide latching engagement surface 26 cooperative with snap latches 74 on the insert 4. Frame mounting arms having intermediate sections 16 and distal mounting flange sections 18, 20 extend from the top and bottom of the central rear panel section 12. The frame 10 and the entire assembly can be mounted in a standard wall box.

Network interface assembly and mounting frame

A method of plating a flexible plastic part is disclosed where serrations are provided on a flexible beam where the serrations are sinuous in shape. After molding the serrations onto the flexible beam, the component is electrically dipped to plate the component. The flexible beam can now be flexed without concern of cracking the plating along the length of the beam where the beam is flexed. A second embodiment shows an outlet box including two latch members along the sides which are bow shaped and have grounding surfaces thereon, which latch the outlet box in place to a panel, and simultaneously ground the box to the panel.

Method of plating a flexible dielectric member

A local area network interface assembly includes an outlet box for receiving at least one connector assembly therein. The outlet box is profiled to receive from the rear thereof, an edge card connector, which is snap latachable into the outlet box. The connector assembly is mounted to an edge card which is profiled for receipt within the edge card connector. The outlet box is formed of a dielectric material which is plated over with a metallic plating. The outlet box includes two latch members along the sides which are bow shaped and have grounding surfaces thereon, which latch the outlet box in place to a panel, and simultaneously ground the box to the panel.

Local area network interface

The disclosure relates to apparatus for installing a clamp portion of an electrical connector to a multiconductor communication cable. The apparatus is used in conjunction with apparatus for trimming, and connecting, wires to electrical terminals of the connector.

Metal clamp applicator

An electrically operated tool is disclosed for inserting one or more insulated electrical wires into a barrel shaped, slotted terminal. A modified solenoid provides a hammer action power stroke which is initiated by partially retracting the toolhead inwardly of the tool upon movement of the tool against the barrel terminal. A trigger circuit applies line voltage to the solenoid windings, saturating the core, to provide rapid power stroke, so that the solenoid armature hammers against a strike plate of the toolhead. The trigger circuit includes a high and low power adjustment.
