A stent graft includes a tubular graft element to which there are attached a plurality of stent rings. The stent rings are formed of a plurality of stent struts arranged in a zig-zag arrangement with alternating peaks and valleys. The end-most stent is located at the proximal end of the graft tube. Between adjacent peaks of the end most stent, there is provided a series of bridging elements. These are preferably formed of Nitinol wire and to be substantially more flexible than the stent struts. The bridging elements extend in the region of graft material between adjacent stent peaks and are attached to the graft material, for example by suturing. The bridging elements are substantially more flexible than the stent ring and therefore impart little opening force on the graft material in comparison to the force produced by the stent ring. However, the bridging elements impart enough force on the flaps of graft material between the peaks of the stent ring keep these flaps open, that is against the vessel wall. The bridging elements can provide integral barbs.

Implantable medical device

A stent grafthas a bare end stentwhich partially overlaps the next stentwith the endof the graft materialbeing shaped to follow the distal peaksof the end stent and the proximal peaksof the next stent. The proximal peaksof the end stent have a greater radius of curvature than the distal peaksof the end stent.

Stent graft

A dilator tip () for deploying and positioning an endovascular device () at a treatment site includes an elongate body () having at least two substantially longitudinal channels () in an outer surface () of the body and at least two deployment struts (). Each deployment strut () has a free end () releasably attached to a proximal edge () of an endovascular device () to be deployed, a constrained end () restrained within one of the longitudinal channels (), and a pivot portion () between the free end () and the constrained end (). In an undeployed configuration of the dilator tip (), the free ends () reside within the longitudinal channels (), and in a deployed configuration of the dilator tip (), the free ends () are pivotally extended away from the longitudinal channels () by way of the pivot portions ().

System and method for deploying and positioning an endovascular device

A stent () has wrapped therearound a barb element () formed of a length of wire provided with first and second ends () forming barb prongs. In intermediate zone (), the barb element () is wrapped or coiled. The two pronged ends () extend out of the graft element () to provide an anchoring function to the medical device. As well as being wrapped onto a strut of the stent (), the barb element () is sutured to the stent () and to the graft material () by suture stitching (). The turns of the coiling or wrapping in section () assist in fixing the barb element () relative to the suture () and thus to the stent graft (). The barb elements () could be made of any suitable material, including Nitinol. This structure of barb elements provides an effective arrangement which is easy to manufacture, which provides strong barbs able to withstand the high processing temperatures required for setting shape memory elements of the device.
