Embodiments herein describe techniques for establishing data constructs for a data device that enable communication between a host and a shared adapter. A shared adapter facilitates communication with one or more hosts coupled to a NIC. To do so, a host can establish the data device in each operating system that wishes to communicate with the shared adapter. This can include establishing data constructs such as storage block pages, queue indexes, and interrupt registers in the host memory. The host can then transmit a queue description record (QDR) to the shared adapter so the adapter can configure the queues and has the addresses of the data constructs in the host memory.

The embodiments herein describe configuring a data device that enables communication between a host and a shared network adapter. The data device can include data connections between the host and the shared network adapter. The data device can have both control queues in a control plane and data queues in a data plane. The control queues can be activated first in order to issue control commands to configure the data plane in the shared network adapter.

Shared memory communication is facilitated between systems of a computing environment capable of communicating over a network using transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP). The network includes a network path between one system and another system of the computing environment, where the network path passes through one or more routers of the network. The facilitating includes obtaining performance-related data for shared memory communication of the one system with the other system across the network path using a remote direct memory access (RDMA) protocol. Based on the performance-related data, the facilitating includes dynamically determining whether to use the RDMA protocol for shared memory communication of the one system with the other system across the network path, rather than the TCP/IP protocol.

A computer-implemented method includes tracking usage history of a plurality of components of one or more products. An original set of announcements about the one or more products is received, where the original set of announcements includes a plurality of announcement records. The plurality of announcement records are prioritized based on the usage history of the plurality of components. A usage-based set of announcements is generated based on the prioritization of the plurality of announcement records.

According to one or more embodiments, a computer implemented method includes receiving, by an operating system of a computer server, a request to execute an instance of a computer application. The method further includes deploying a virtual container for the instance of the computer application, the virtual container is allocated a dynamic virtual interne protocol address (DVIPA). The method further includes instantiating an application instance of the computer application in the virtual container. The method further includes, based on a determination that the computer application is a non-native application for the operating system, creating for the virtual container, a virtual network interface card (NIC) that translates network communication between the application instance and a physical NIC of the computer server. The method further includes selecting, by the virtual NIC, a communication protocol stack, from multiple communication protocol stacks, to bind the application instance for transferring the network communication.

A memory block distance is determined between the I/O adapter and a memory block location in the processor complex and determining one or more memory movement type criteria between the I/O adapter and the memory block location based on the memory block distance. A memory movement operation type is selected based on a memory movement process parameter and the one or more memory movement type criteria. A memory movement process is initiated between the I/O adapter and the memory block location using the memory movement operation type.

An aspect includes memory access optimization in a processor complex. A non-limiting example includes determining one or more offload criteria for offloading memory movement in the processor complex. A memory movement process parameter corresponding to the one or more offload criteria is identified. Movement of a block of memory from a first block location at a first host to a second block location at a second host is scheduled as the memory movement process performed by an offload engine based on determining that the memory movement process parameter exceeds at least one of the offload criteria. The block of memory is moved from the first block location at the first host to the second block location at the second host as the memory movement process performed by the first host based on determining that the memory movement process parameter does not exceed at least one of the offload criteria.

According to one or more embodiments, a computer implemented method includes deploying a first virtual container to host an instance of a first computer application that is non-native to an operating system of a computer server. The method further includes allocating a virtual internet protocol address (VIPA) to the first virtual container. The method further includes creating a first virtual network interface card (NIC) associated with the first virtual container, and creating, by the virtual NIC, an internal route for the first virtual container to communicate with the internal router, the first virtual container being one hop behind a physical NIC of the computer server. The method further includes receiving a request to execute a second computer application that is native to the operating system, and in response, instantiating an instance of the second computer application, and allocating, a second VIPA to the instance of the second computer application.

According to one or more embodiments, a computer implemented method includes receiving, by an operating system of a computer server, a request to execute an instance of a computer application. The method further includes, based on a determination that the computer application is a non-native application for the operating system, deploying, by the operating system, a virtual container for the instance of the computer application, the virtual container is allocated a dynamic virtual internet protocol address (DVIPA). The method further includes instantiating, by the operating system, an application instance of the computer application in the virtual container. The method further includes setting, by the operating system, a VC-attribute of the DVIPA of the virtual container to a first state, the first state of the VC-attribute indicative that the virtual container is hosting the application instance of the non-native application.

The host device includes a processor configured to establish a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection between the host device and a client device via the host device network adapter. The host device forwards Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) Security Associations (SAs) and related keys to a host device Remote Direct Memory Access over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) adapter operatively connected with the host device for remote direct memory access. The RoCE adapter communicates protected data to and from the client device over an RoCE connection using the IPSec SAs and related keys.

A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for performing a network traffic combination operation. With the network traffic combination operation, a plurality of input queues are defined by an operating system for an adapter based upon workload type (e.g., as determined by a transport layer). Additionally, the operating system defines each input queue to match a virtual memory architecture of the transport layer (e.g., one input queue is defined as 31 bit and other input queue is defined as 64 bit). When data is received off the wire as inbound data from a physical NIC, the network adapter associates the inbound data with the appropriate memory type. Thus, data copies are eliminated and memory consumption and associated storage management operations are reduced for the smaller bit architecture communications while allowing the operating system to continue executing in a larger bit architecture configuration.
