A press for holding mold segments that are joined to form a mold cavity into which liquid chemicals are injected and reacted to form solid objects includes tie bar extenders to provide field adjustment of the press geometry and further includes booking plate spacers to unload booking plate hinge pins during mold clamping.

Molding press for reaction injection molding

A high pressure mix-head for use in reaction injection molding systems includes a full cross section plunger and a piston valve assembly selectively positioned in response to recirculation and pour cycles to control flow through recirculation passages formed on the O.D. surface of a mix-head sleeve.

Valved mix-head for rim process

A high pressure mix-head for use in reaction injection molding systems includes a full cross section control piston and body slots and primary pour orifices for establishing pressure balance during recirculation and pour cycles.

Impingement mix-head for rim process

A vehicle bumper assembly including an elongated mounting beam adapted for being an integral part of the vehicle structure and an energy absorber for absorbing impact energy. The energy absorber is connected to the mounting beam and is supported thereby. The assembly is characterized by the mounting beam including two vertically spaced and interconnected hollow tubular portions. Each of the tubular portions has a closed crossed section and extends along the length of the mounting beam for providing structural rigidity and minimal deflection of the beam under impact loads. The mounting beam and tubular portions may be made from a single piece of sheet metal or the tubular portions can be stamped from separate pieces of sheet metal welded together to form the mounting beam.

Vehicle bumper assembly

An elongated energy-absorbing bumper assembly including energy-absorbing elastomeric or foam material extending between a rear mounting surface and a front impact surface with the material defining a hollow recess extending thereinto from the rear mounting surface and positioned between the ends of the assembly. The elastomeric foam material extends to the rear mounting surface at both ends of the hollow recess to define block-like end portions of the elastomeric material. A structural member extends between the block-like end portions of elastomeric material with the ends of the member embedded in the elastomeric foam material. The elastomeric material is the sole support and means of positioning the member so that the member is allowed unguided movement with the elastomeric material in multiple directions upon impact.

Multi-media energy absorbers (flex straddle)

A spring support is disposed about and fixed to a shock-absorbing unit and engages the lower end of a coil spring. A spring base engages the upper end of the coil spring and engages a mounting plate which is secured to the vehicle body and is also fixedly connected to the upper end of the shock absorber rod. The spring base has a cup-shaped cavity in which is disposed an energy-absorbing block of compressible elastomeric urethane-type material for absorbing energy when the shock absorber system bottoms out by the upper end of the shock-absorbing unit engaging the bottom of the elastomeric block. The energy-absorbing block has a peripheral disc portion extending thereabout and clamped between a dust cover and the spring base for securing the block in position. The energy-absorbing block includes a first plate of non-compressible material disposed between its upper face and the bottom of the cup-shaped cavity in the spring base. A second plate is disposed on the bottom face of the energy-absorbing block with a sound-deadening material disposed thereon for compressing the energy-absorbing block upon bottoming out of the system when the cylindrical energy-absorbing unit engages the bottom plate of the energy-absorbing block to compress the block.

Shock-absorbing assembly

An automotive body assembly including an energy absorbing bumper assembly of elastomeric foam material, such as urethane, for compressing to absorb energy in response to an impact with a light means disposed in a recess and support means connected to the light means and supported by the elastomeric material for moving with the elastomeric material upon the compression thereof to move the light means and thereafter return the light means to the initial position. The support means includes an eyebrow portion disposed forwardly of the light means. In one embodiment the eyebrow portion is embedded within the elastomeric material and in another embodiment the eyebrow portion is disposed over the elastomeric material.

Energy-absorbing bumper assembly

An energy absorbing bumper assembly including a mounting means defined by metal mounting plates adapted for attachment to a vehicle and an elongated shell made of elastomeric material disposed adjacent or forwardly of the mounting plate. Urethane energy absorbing pairs of blocks are disposed adjacent the center line of the bumper assembly between the front face of the shell and the mounting plate. Each pair includes first and second members which are spaced vertically apart and define a cavity adjacent and interiorly the front face of the shell. Second energy absorbing urethane pairs of blocks are disposed adjacent the ends of the assembly between the front face of the shell and the mounting plate. The pairs define the first bumper means for absorbing a first quantity of energy resulting from specified impacts. A second bumper means of elastomeric material for absorbing a different quantity of energy resulting from impacts other than the specified impacts is disposed within the cavity and extends longitudinally along the shell.
