Embodiments of integrated circuits for use in a broadband tuner are described. In one embodiment, an integrated circuit includes a clock buffer configured to buffer a received clock signal and generate a buffered clock signal. Additionally, the integrated circuit includes a multiphase local oscillator core coupled to the clock buffer and configured to generate a plurality of oscillator signals in response to the buffered clock signal, each of the plurality of oscillator signals being mutually phase shifted. The integrated circuit may also include a plurality of output buffers, each configured to receive one of the plurality of oscillator signals and to produce an output signal suitable for use in a broadband tuner circuit in response to the one of the plurality of oscillator signals.

A method and apparatus for improving signal reception in a receiver () by performing all-channel and/or on-channel estimations on a received signal so as to predict future RF environments. The prediction is achieved through the use of one or more detector systems () positioned to sample and detect predetermined signal metrics of the received signal () prior to analog-to-digital conversion () and subsequent post-processing (). Future estimations of the channel condition are thus generated prior to the arrival of the actual samples () at a controller section (). The detectors () provide triggers () to the controller () so that active stages () within the receiver () can be adjusted and scaled as needed via a serial port interface (SPI) () based on signal conditions.

Method and apparatus for improving signal reception in a receiver

A receiver () has a down-conversion receiver () for transforming a signal () from a first operating frequency to a second operating frequency that is lower than the first operating frequency, and a receiver filter () with chopper stabilization for filtering unwanted portions of the signal () at the second operating frequency and for generating a final filtered signal () at the second operating frequency.

A temperature sensing apparatus (200), includes a temperature sensor (220), a current source (203), and a temperature independent voltage source (240, 250). The current source (203) provides a biasing current to the temperature sensor (220), and the voltage source (240, 250) is programmable to adjust the output of the temperature sensor (220). Preferably, the voltage source (240, 250) includes a variable current source (240) and a resistive element (250) with counterbalanced temperature coefficients, and the bias current source (203) is selected to have a counterbalancing temperature coefficient to that of the resistive element (250).

Temperature sensing apparatus

A reference voltage generator (100) generates a constant offset reference voltage (125) relative to a reference ground voltage (115) that tracks supply voltage (105). The supply voltage (105) is scaled to derive the reference ground voltage (115). A scaled voltage output (135) is derived from a temperature and supply independent voltage source, such as a bandgap voltage generator. The scaled voltage output (135) is summed with the reference ground voltage (115) to generate the constant offset reference voltage (125). The summing function is preferably performed by an operational amplifier (220) having an input (221) coupled to the scaled voltage output by a MOSFET transistor (242), and another input (222) coupled to the reference ground voltage (115).
