A retrograde cutting instrument and method of retrograde drilling using such an instrument. A method of forming a socket includes providing a retrograde cutter, inserting the cutter into a joint with a blade of the cutter in a straight position, pivoting the blade to a non-straight flip position, locking the blade in the flip position, and retrograde drilling a socket using the blade in the flip position.

Retrograde cutting instrument

A flip cutter and drill instrument and method of antegrade drilling and retrograde cutting using such an instrument. The flip cutter and drill instrument is provided with a drill which has a multi-blade configuration and which engages an inner tube or inner member of the instrument to articulate between at least a first 'straight' position (for example, about parallel to the longitudinal axis of the instrument) when the instrument is in the drilling mode, and at least a second 'flip' position (for example, a non-parallel position relative to the longitudinal axis of the instrument) when the instrument is in the cutting mode.

A method of forming a socket includes providing a flip retrograde cutter, inserting the cutter into a joint with a blade of the cutter in a straight position, pivoting the blade to a non-straight flip position, locking the blade in the flip position, and retrograde drilling a socket using the blade in the flip position.

Flip retrograde cutting instrument

A flexible drill with a shaft having a nitinol portion (or nitinol region) provided between a stainless steel driver end and a stainless steel drill tip. The flexible drill with nitinol shaft is provided with a bearing surface to allow centering within a drill guide, low friction bearing and flexibility to drill around a curve. The bearing surface may be formed of a fluoropolymer such as LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene). The flexible drill shaft may be used through a drill guide, such as a curved drill sleeve.

Flexible drill and method of joining nitinol to dissimilar metals

A device for tensioning suture which includes a cannulated tube that allows a suture to be fed through at least a portion of the tube. An adjustment device (for example, a wheel or a knob) is actuated to turn a threaded post on the end of the tube. A length of suture passes through at least a portion of the cannulated tube and is secured into a forked pin attached to the adjustment device. Turning the adjustment device draws against the suture, increasing therefore the tension on the suture. The suture tensioning device may be employed in conjunction with a tensiometer.

Suture tensioning device

A combined knot pusher/suture cutter device for manipulating a knotted suture to properly locate the knot relative to the tissue being sutured, and then for removing excess suture from the knot. The knot pusher/suture cutter includes a body member with a handle and an inner member (or inner rod) having a knot-engageable section at the opposite end (distal end) for engaging and moving the knotted suture by manipulation of the handle. The knot-engageable section of the inner member is provided with a slot at its distal end which allows suture to be threaded through it. The inner member is provided within an outer sleeve that is designed to be actuated by a spring and a thumb pusher (trigger) located on a surface of the handle. By actuating the thumb trigger (for example, by sliding forward the thumb trigger), the outer sleeve is advanced and the suture post is cut.

Method of using knot pusher and suture cutter instrument

A method and apparatus for arthroscopic unicompartmental knee surgery which include a femoral component and a tibial component. The femoral component is installed in a trough in the femoral condyle formed by using a template, a plurality of drill pins and a plurality of corresponding cutters. The template is aligned with the curvature of the femoral condyle, the two drill pins are passed through the template and drilled into the femur, cutters are advanced over the corresponding drill pins to make holes in the femur, and the remaining hourglass shaped bone is removed with osteotomy pliers to form the trough. A tibial socket for the tibial component is formed in a retrograde manner.
