A topographic optical infrared tomography system for biophysical imaging includes a thermal camera operably disposed adjacent a body part equipped for obtaining thermal data readings from the body part and apparatus operably connected to the thermal camera for correcting thermal emissivity variations in the thermal data readings to provide corrected thermal data. A method for obtaining physiological data using the thermally corrected data is also provided.

Detection of defects by thermographic analysis

A method for inspecting an object and detecting defects is taught (BGA and Flip-Chip solder joints on a PCB particularly). The method comprises injecting a thermal stimulation on the object; capturing a sequence of consecutive infrared images of the object to record heat diffusion resulting from the heat pulse; comparing the heat diffusion on said object to a reference; and determining whether the object comprises any defects. Also described is a system comprising a mounting for mounting the object; a thermal stimulation module for applying a thermal stimulation to the bottom surface of the object; an infrared camera for capturing infrared images of the object on the top surface of the object to record a change in infrared radiation from the top surface resulting from the thermal stimulation; and a computer for comparing the change in infrared radiation within a region on the top surface to a reference and determining whether the object comprises any defects.

Method and apparatus for detection of defects using thermal stimulation

In general, the spatial resolution and repeatability of results using infrared detectors for examining printed circuit cards has been so poor that the devices have failed to achieve commercial success. These problems are overcome by a system including an isothermal enclosure for receiving a card to be tested, an infrared camera in the chamber defined by the enclosure, sensors for monitoring the temperature of the card and ambient temperature conditions in the chamber to derive signals indicative of the temperatures, and a computer connected to the camera and to the sensors for examining all signals to produce a three dimensional image of the sample, variations in the image from sample to sample being indicative of an anomaly in a sample.

Infrared screening and inspection system

A vibration chamber for screening or testing printed circuit boards by subjecting the printed circuit boards to acoustical vibrations which are generated by top and bottom speakers which face each other, with the printed circuit boards between the speakers. The top and bottom speakers are arranged in a 'push-pull' configuration so that the speakers cooperate with one another in pushing air up and down in the vertical plane, thus imparting maximum acoustical energy to both sides (top and bottom) of the printed circuit board under test. The vibration chamber can be mated to a roller conveyor system for automatically running printed circuit boards through the vibration chamber in a production environment, and the speaker system can be driven by a profile of random vibration noise to achieve the maximum number of modes of vibration on the printed circuit board in the minimum amount of time.
