A lever and latching arrangement having a pair of camming surfaces disposed on one end thereof is attached to one end of a tailstock member of an electronic memory book or central electronic complex book of a computer. This lever arrangement, as rotated about a pivot axis, engages one of the camming surfaces with a portion of the computer frame; the mechanical advantage of the lever system overcomes the large forces required to connect or disconnect the electronic book from the computer connectors. The pivot axis is positioned between the side rail of the book and the computer frame and between the tailstock and the connectors of the book to afford a low profile relative to the tailstock, permitting a more efficient use of available volumetric space within the computer. On the end of the lever distal from the pivot axis, the lever supports a latch which is insertable into a latch-retaining opening in the tailstock of the book, providing the capability to latch the lever in the installed position while not requiring any additional height of the lever structure.

Low profile/high leverage electronic computer book latching system

An apparatus for preventing leakage of electromagnetic radiation from a modular electronic planar substrate surrounded by an enclosure that includes a bottom portion, a top portion, a first side portion having apertures adapted for receiving electronic cables, and a second side portion having electrical connections therein. The apparatus includes a bracket having a first end and a second end, the bracket connected to the first side portion, wherein the bracket includes an interior portion and an outer portion which contiguously form a first bracket wall, a second bracket wall and a third bracket wall, such that the second bracket wall is positioned approximately perpendicular to the first bracket wall and the third bracket wall. A first cover and a second cover each have Z-sectional bends which contact the interior portion of the bracket at the first bracket wall and the third bracket wall to respectively form sealed seams which prevent electromagnetic radiation associated with the electronic planar substrate from leaking beyond the enclosure. In addition, the apparatus includes a first grounding spring and a second grounding spring respectively mounted at the first end and the second end of the bracket to provide a ground path from the enclosure to associated enclosures and assist in preventing the electromagnetic radiation associated with the electronic planar substrate from leaking beyond the enclosure. The interior portion of the bracket wraps about the first side portion and flattens the first cover and the second cover respectively against the first bracket wall and the third bracket wall to provide rigid structural support to the enclosure.

An expansion module for use in a computer system is disclosed. The expansion module holds a first card, which has a data processing unit and associated memory coupled together via a high speed internal local bus and an external coupler for an external peripheral device. An expansion coupler is also provided for coupling a second expansion card to the first card. The expansion module has a system connector for connecting the expansion module to a lower speed input-output bus of a computer system. The module can also accommodate additional SIMM modules as its associated memory. The module uses sidewalls or book covers made of a shielding material to provide electrical shielding and protection from external conditions. The expansion module improves the upgradeability and expandability of a data processing system.

A structure is shown having three stages for guiding a system component into an operatively mounted position within an enclosure while simultaneously making a blind attachment of the electrical connectors to complete the power and signal circuits between the component and system contained within the enclosure. A coarse positioning structure includes a guide rail means for directing the component toward the operative, mounted position; an intermediate positioning structure functions within the tolerance of the coarse positioning means to substantially align the component including the electrical connectors and a fine positioning means aligns the electrical connectors for the final positioning as the component is latched into the operating position and electrical connections are completed. The three positioning functions are intitated serially.
