A chip resistant pneumatic tire ( ) is provided. The tire has an original reinforced rubber sheet ( ) embedded in or under its tread ( ) and/or sidewall ( ), and is used in off the road applications such as mining. Low sulfur rubber ( ) is used to coat the organic reinforcement ( ), and its shown that such rubber ( ) is more compatible with rubber used to form the tread ( ) or sidewall ( ), which together with the organic reinforcement ( ), helps prevent chipping and chunking in the tread ( ) and sidewall ( ). The illustrated organic filaments of cords ( ) have a round cross section and are at least 2000 denier (2200 dTex) and have a tenacity of at least 3.5 g/denier (31 cN/Tex), an initial modulus of at least 20 g/denier (177 cN/Tex), an elongation at break of at least 10%, and a shrinkage of at most 10%.

A semi-pneumatic tire assembly including a tire casing,and a lining,is provided. The lining,includes a contoured inward surface,defining an inflation chamber,about an associated wheel rim. The lining,minimizes the risk of puncture damage from an object penetrating the tire casing,while allowing pneumatic cushioning of the ride and cooler running temperatures as compared to solid-fill tires. Additionally, the semi-pneumatic tire will carry the same load or more than the same tire filled with perform and/or solid urethane foam wingfil. The tire assembly is formed by injecting a curable, lining-forming material,into a cavity,defined between the tire casing,and a molding member,. The molding member,includes a contoured outer surface,which molds the inward surface of the lining,. The molding member,may be an inflatable airbag,retained in the tire assembly during service. Alternately, the molding member,may be a solid core,which is removed prior to mounting the tire casing,and lining,on the associated rim.

Semi-pneumatic tire for mine service

A cut resistant pneumatic tire is provided. The tire has a monofilament wire structure embedded in or under its tread or sidewall, and is used in off the road applications such as mining. The monofilament wire has a diameter of 0.4 to 1.2 mm and is made of brass plated steel. The wire may be woven or may have a spring link configuration. Two monofilament wires may be twisted together, and when two such wires are used, the total diameter is 0.8 to 1.4 mm.
