A silencer and method of making are described. A tube is wrapped with a layer of texturized fiber yarn. A septum is then overlaid. Other layers of fiber and septums may also be added. Once rolling is completed, the roll is placed in a canister with end caps.

Silencer

Concentric conduits are supplied for the purpose of minimizing heat transfer from within the inner conduit through the outer conduit. The air gap or annulus around the inner conduit is filled with a resin mixture which is mixed with vermiculite and mineral fiber to form a slurry. The slurry is pumped into an open end of the annulus to fill the annulus and enhance the heat insulation characteristics of the concentric conduits.

A hot pipe from an automobile manifold is shielded from other components in the engine compartment by attaching a two part shield around the pipe and clamping it in place. Each part is formed of two sheets of metallic material sandwiching therebetween a fibrous layer of heat insulating material. The layers of each of the shield parts are formed to a shape to conform to the shape of the hot pipe to be shielded prior to installation.

Method of making a silencer

A heat shield formed of composite layers of reflective metallic foil, heat insulating fibers and a non-electrically conducting sheet molding compound which are deformed to the general shape of an operating apparatus. The shield is then clamped about the operating apparatus in spaced relationship between the operating apparatus and a high temperature heat source to prevent heat radiation to the operating apparatus.

Heat Shield

A shield for mounting on a vehicle intermediate the passenger compartment and the exhaust system is formed as a sandwich of a fibrous layer between two heat reflecting layers. During the manufacturing process a hardenable resin impregnates the periphery of the fibrous layer and hardens in place to serve as an adhesive for bonding the layers together and providing a hard rigid mounting bracket. The fibrous layer intermediate its peripheral edges is relatively loosely held in place to serve as a sound absorbing barrier.

The invention relates to a method of fabricating a fiberglass-resin impregnated composite article which has a non porous surface formed by melting and curing a suitable polymeric film thereon. The process further involves coating an adhesive layer having a release sheet thereon over the non-porous melted polymer surface for bonding onto a substrate, and the invention further relates to the particular formed article and a process of forming an air-conditioning frame.

Two pelts of fiberglass are bonded together to form a sound absorption panel. One pelt is deformed to a sawtooth shape and the teeth of the sawtooth pelts are bonded into grooves in the other pelt which is essentially flat except for the grooves.

Sound absorption panel

A sound absorption panel in which a honeycomb core exhibiting cell end planes has bonded to those planes a porous fiberglass pelt, a layer of thermoplastic material intermediate the core and the porous fiberglass pelt having been subjected to pressure and heated to the point of liquification providing the bond between the porous fiberglass pelt and the cell end plane of the honeycomb core. The thermoplastic in its melted state penetrates the fibers of the porous fiberglass pelt and flows around the edges of the cell end plane of the honeycomb core.
