A novel method and apparatus for manufacturing magnet wire in a continuous process by which coatings of a flowable resin material may be applied concentrically to a moving elongated filament in thicknesses of about 16 mils or less. The filament can be a bare copper or aluminum conductor having round or rectangular configuration or an insulated conductor upon which a top or an intermediate coat of material is desirably applied. Coatings of one-half mil and one mil also can be applied by the method of the invention. By the method and apparatus of the invention, magnet wire can be manufactured by continuously drawing the wire to size, annealing the wire, if necessary, insulating the wire with one or more coats of flowable resin material, curing the resin material, if necessary, hardening the resin material, and spooling the wire for shipment, without interruption at speeds limited only by the filament pay-off and take-up devices used. The apparatus of the invention utilizes the flowable resin material to center the filament in a die, the size of the die controls the thickness of the coat to be applied. In the apparatus of the invention, only the resin material being applied to the filament is in contact with the filament. Thus, the mechanical wear normally associated with centering dies used in extrusion processes and like devices is completely eliminated. Further, the apparatus and method of the invention can be used to apply coats several times thinner than is possible with conventional extrusion apparatus and of materials different than those conventionally extruded onto filaments. In specific embodiments using heat softenable materials or melts, curing is no longer required; and thus, the need for curing, catalytic burners and the like as well as all concerns regarding atmospheric pollution are eliminated. The coated filaments and magnet wire made by the apparatus and in accordance with the method of the invention have coatings which are surprisingly concentric and continuous when compared to magnet wire made by conventional methods and apparatus.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing magnet wire

Apparatus for manufacturing magnet wire

A connector valve assembly for admission of catheters through endotracheal tubes employs a connector body having a tracheal tube port, a respiratory tube port and an end portion adapted for insertion of a catheter through the body and through the tracheal tube for patient airway suctioning. An end cap on the end portion has an aperture with a ring seal for sealably engaging the catheter as it is inserted therethrough and has a check valve disposed inwardly of the ring seal toward the respiratory and tracheal tube ports. The end cap defines an air lock chamber for insertion of the catheter through the connector body without interrupting positive pressure ventilation of the patient.

A device for delivering gas to a patient comprises a unitary mask member for overlying the patient's nose and mouth and having an upper peripheral surface for lying in sealing engagement against the nose and cheeks, and a lower peripheral surface contiguous therewith disposed outwardly from the face, and a gas delivery member extending along the mask interior having orifices for delivering gas.

A bi-flow nasal inhalation cup for mixing oxygen and ambient air includes a crescent shaped cup member or open top receptacle having a recessed pocket in a downwardly sloping collecting floor. A curved inner wall extends above and below a cup floor inner margin and is contoured to gently engage the upper lip of a patient. Opposite wing portions extend outwardly from the inner wall and conform to facial portions laterally of the nose. A substantially vertical outer wall merges with the cup floor and the inner wall and has a center portion which extends above the inner wall and merges with diverging opposite straight arm portions. A pair of cannula inlets respectively extend tangentially through the arm sections and project generally radially outwardly and at an upward angle toward the patient's face. Tubes or cannula are fitted into the inlets and extend toward the patient's face with each tube or cannula having a curve for draping over the patient's ears and supporting the cup member thereby. When worn, the outer wall of the cup is spaced from the patient's nose and permits a flow of ambient air onto the collecting floor which mixes with oxygen for breathing by the patient. The nasal cup is preferably a one piece, injection molded, plastic item designed for low cost, single patient use.

A disposable inhalation spirometer apparatus for prophylactic respiratory maneuver is in expensively constructed and intended for single-patient use. The apparatus includes a tube with an interior respiratory passage communicating through a one-way valve structure to a nebulizer assembly and having a separate visual inhalation meter. The nebulizer assembly includes both a medicant mist dispensing nebulizer and an enlarged, enclosed, mist accumulation chamber which is positioned between the nebulizer and the tube passage. The visual inhalation meter includes a tube defining a chamber and having a transparent portion or window with a scale or indicia thereon and in which is mounted a floating piston movable in response to low differential pressure to indicate relative inspirational ability. A one-way check valve in an end of the tube passage opens to the atmosphere upon exhalation and permits the patient to maintain constant contact with a tube mouthpiece.
