An adjustable cable egress mechanism for cable connectors. The mechanism includes a protective hood, and a hub mounted inside the hood for rotation about a hub axis. The hub has a cable passage, and the hood has an outside wall with an elongated cable egress slot. The egress slot opens into the cable passage in the hub over a predetermined range of angular positions of the hub. Thus, a cable whose conductors terminate in an associated connector can be routed through the egress slot in the hood and the cable passage in the hub, and the cable rotated with the hub to a desired egress angle within the predetermined range. In the illustrated embodiment, the finger hub is engaged by latch formed on part of the hood to hold the cable at the desired egress angle.

Adjustable cable egress mechanism for cable connectors

An electrical connector, comprising an insulating housing, a plurality of conductors mounted within the insulating housing in at least two rows of aligned pairs, a first compensation section which provides a first crosstalk compensation, and a second compensation section which provides a second crosstalk compensation. A first end portion of each conductor is adapted to electrically connect with contacts of another connector while a second end portion of each conductor is adapted to electrically connect with an electrical device such as a printed circuit board. The first compensation section is located within the insulating housing with the conductors being arranged therein in an orientation to provide the first crosstalk compensation. The second compensation section further is located within the connector and typically comprises a multi-layered circuit board.

Following the application of plastic extrudate to transmission medium being moved along a path of travel to provide an insulative covering, the covered medium is moved through a cooling medium and then through an air wipe device (20). The air wipe device, which is effective to remove any of the cooling medium remaining on an outer surface of the cover, comprises a helically extending manifold (42). Spaced along inner surfaces (51, 52) of the manifold are a plurality of sets of orifices (50--50) from which air is directed into engagement with the moving transmission medium. Each set of orifices is arranged to direct streams of air toward the path of travel and hence into engagement with the transmission medium in a manner such that cooling medium is removed from the entire outer surface of the transmission medium. Also each set of orifices is such that the air which is directed toward the moving transmission media does not reengage the air wipe device. A plurality of single orifices (60--60) alternate with the sets of orifices and cooperate with the sets to maintain the transmission medium disposed along the path of travel substantially adjacent to the focal point of the streams of air from each set of orifices.
