A system for facilitating memory and application management on a smartcard the system includes a client having a number of applications and a smartcard having specification logic allowing file structures and security and access conditions to be defined using a set of common commands. Each application has a corresponding group of data on the smartcard. An applet instance is created for each application and corresponding group of application data. At the time of instantiation, the specification logic allows an application to specify the file structure and/or to specify security and access conditions for its group of data. An application can utilize passcode and credential management so that a single passcode is used to access the smartcard regardless of whether the application utilizes the common commands to specify a file structure.

Method and system for facilitating memory and application management on a secured token

A system including a secured token having a plurality of applets. Each applet supports a plurality of commands and is capable of being instantiated to create one or more applet instances. Each applet instance is capable of supporting the same plurality of commands that is supported by the applet that creates that applet instance. The applet instances can provide different file structures or different access conditions for data on the secured token.

Locking and unlocking an application in a smart card allows for automatic authenticity of a lock or unlock command without the need for a personal identification number (PIN). The smart card is locked and unlocked by using a smart card device that need not have a keypad. A lock command is sent from the device to the smart card. An application on the smart card is locked. The smart card sends identifying information, such as a password and a card identification number, to the device which is stored in a cache. To unlock, the smart card is inserted into the device and an unlock button is pressed. The smart card device reads the card identification number of the card and determines if the corresponding password for that card is present in the cache. If so, an unlock command is issued to the smart card along with the password.

System and method for locking and unlocking an application in a smart card

The smart card device is a dedicated reader and locking/unlocking device, or can be a bank terminal, PC, telephone, etc. The smart card is inserted into the smart card device. A lock command is sent from the device to the smart card. An application on the smart card is locked. The smart card sends identifying information, such as a password and a card identification number, to the device which is stored in a cache. The identifying information allows automatic authentication for unlocking of the card at a later time. The locked application cannot be used until it is unlocked. To unlock, the smart card is inserted into the device and an unlock button is pressed. The smart card device reads the card identification number of the card and determines if the corresponding password for that card is present in the cache of the device. If so, an unlock command is issued to the smart card along with the password. If the password received by the smart card matches the password of the smart card then the smart card is unlocked.

System and method for locking and unlocking and application in a smart card

A method for using a smart card to gain access through an access device upon payment of a value (V) is performed by first operatively coupling the card to the access device. The access device reads a first and a second set of data from the card, and performs a first authentication process on the first set of data. Access is permitted if the first authentication process meets a required condition. Access is denied otherwise. If access is permitted, the second set of data is stored in the access device for further processing, including a second authentication process which operates on the first and second sets of data.
