The present invention relates to the application of lubricant to fluoropolymer yarn which enables the yarn to be drawn at a high draw ratio and is removable by scouring, the lubricant being thermally stable at a temperature of at least 120&deg; C., and being removable from the yarn by scouring and comprising oil and surfactant and/or wetting agent to enable the lubricant to spread over the surface of the yarn upon application to the yarn, the lubricant comprising oil such as a C6-C20 aliphatic acid ester of a polyol and a surfactant and/or wetting agent.

Lubricated fluoropolymer yarn

A sensor for use with a yarn processing apparatus that includes at least one roll over at least a portion of the surface of which at least one yarn is conveyed is operative to generate an accumulation signal representative of a wrap accumulation of yarn circumferentially around the surface of the roll.

Wrap detection device

A baffle structure that includes a generally cylindrical portion and at least one generally linear portion is associated with each roll in a yarn processing. The generally cylindrical portion is spaced a predetermined clearance distance from the surface of the roll with which it is associated to define a generally curved channel about the roll. The generally linear portion of each baffle structure extends toward the other roll, with the generally linear portions overlapping each other to define a substantially linear channel between adjacent upstream and the downstream rolls. The generally linear portion extending from the cylindrical portion of the upstream roll toward the downstream roll has an edge thereon. The edge is disposed within a predetermined close distance of the surface of the upstream roll such that the edge lies within the boundary layer of air able to be generated about the upstream roll. The generally curved channels and the substantially linear channel cooperating to define a pathway that substantially encloses the warp array of yarns as the same is moved over and between the rolls. In operation, a substantially uniform transverse temperature is maintained across the pathway at each point therealong, and at least a portion of the heated air about the upstream roll is stripped therefrom as yarn is conveyed from the upstream to the downstream roll.

A method for detecting a yarn break between the cooling drum and the windup in a yarn bulking process and containing the broken end to prevent the broken end from interrupting adjacent threadlines. The yarn, when broken, is contained in individual tubes extending along the yarn path to prevent the yarn from interrupting adjacent yarn lines. The yarn is recaptured from the tube by a jet moveable into and out of engagement with the tube.

This invention relates to a foam applicator device for foam treating pile fabrics, especially carpets, by applying foam through the backing of the fabric. The device includes an applicator body containing a bore with injection ports and an applicator slot extending through a round applicator pipe, and an internal foam distribution pipe. The applicator pipe has a diameter of one to three inches in order that the backing of the fabric may be wrapped around said pipe.

A modification to a reel type staple cutter that includes a compartmentalized assembly located below the cutter reel, each compartment forms an isolated cutting zone which reduces the opportunity for falling tufts of cut staple to mix and intermingle to form clumps which are difficult to open. The curved top plate of each compartment provides a downward force vector which assists gravitational forces and injected air to overcome centrifugal and adhesive forces tending to prevent staple from falling. Plates and baffles attached to a stationary shell located beneath the cutter reel split the cut fibers into discrete tufts despite the cohesive nature of the product and promote flow down and from each compartment.

Apparatus for cutting filamentary material

A modification to a reel type staple cutter wherein a hollow drive shaft for the reel communicates with internal passageways in the top plate of the cutter reel. Holes are formed through the top plate at locations between adjacent cutter blade assemblies. Air fed through the shaft is continuously jetted through the holes against advancing wads of cut staple to strip off staple.
